Anthony Bourdain’s favorite NYC restaurants - Katz’s Delicatessen

Ahead of Bourdain Day this weekend, we’re visiting a few of the places Tony raved about in his home city of New York.

Katz’s Deli opened in 1888 and has been serving the Lower East Side ever since! Famous for their pastrami sandwiches (and appearing in Harry Met Sally), Bourdain’s go to order was pastrami on rye with brown mustard, sour pickles and a can of cream soda.

Yea, Pastrami slapped on some plain ass rye. So good.
There are like a million spots in nyc you can get a nice sandwich at. And if I am ever craving a rueben or pastrami on rye. I will go to literall any other jewish deli in nyc and pay a quarter of the price for literally the same thing ... I guess tourists just really like spending 35 $ on some meat slapped on some bred with pickles and a soda xD

Does the "rye" bread look too white to be a really good rye bread?

You left out the around the block line you wait in to be seated🤣🤣
Yes I’m a New Yorker who frequents Katz Deli! Usually get the corned beef. Also their turkey is f’ing awesome! Juicy and tender!

It’s a tourist trap. I have no idea what makes this pastrami any different than something you could get a block or two away for ten bucks. The staff are rude as hell too, I literally saw an employee yelling at a bunch of elderly women for losing the ticket that you get when you walk in. It was obviously an accident and it’s katz fault for having such an outdated system. He kept ragging on them as my family tried to enjoy our mediocre 30 dollar sandwiches. Miserable experience and I won’t ever go back.

Super pricey but tasty. It's now just a tourist trap. Places in Riverdale in the upper Bronx are equally as good at half the price

You left out the part where it costs 30 dollars

Katz was the best sandwich I’ve ever had. The chili dog was pretty good too. The flavor on the pastrami is amazing.

Bourdains favorite Pastrami place was Pastrami Queen not Katz.

Has a sandwich at Katz's reached $100, yet?

Pastrami King, Bens, and 2nd Avenue Deli are all better!

The same 10 restaurants in nyc get all the attention and I’m wondering what kind of conspiracy this is

I'm sorry, but that sandwich doesn't look appetizing or delicious. One of the problems is that Pastrami is salty as $@#% and the other is two slices of bread and a huge hunk of meat barely qualifies as a sandwich 😂❤

$27.45 plus tax not including drink or sides.
