1. challenges for the new nation:-
A- 1st challenge was to share a nation that was united by getting accommodative of the diversity in our society.
B- 2nd challenge was to establish democracy.
C- 3rd challenge ensures the development and wellbeing of the entire society and not only of some sections.
2. Partition: displacement and rehabilitation:- some consequences of partition were -
A- Amritsar and Kolkata were divided into communal zones.
B- people underwent immense suffering.
C- partition created religious conflicts.
3. process of partition:- British India would be divided into two countries: India and Pakistan-
A- there was no single belt of Muslim minority areas in British India.
B-not all Muslim majority areas wanted to be in Pakistan.
C- partion of Punjab and Bengal caved deepest trauma.
4. integration of princely states:-
A- the problem after independence there was a possibility that India would get further divided into a number of small countries.
B- government approach was that the government made the rulers of most of the states sign a document called the instrument of accession which meant that their state agreed to become a part of the Indian union.
C- in Hyderabad the Nizam wanted an independent state for Hyderabad .on September 1948 Indian army moved in to control the Nizam's force's.
D- in Manipur the government of India succeeded in pressuring the maharaja into signing a merger agreement in September 1949.
5. Reorganization of states:-
A- circumstances changed after independence and partition.
B- one of the most important concerns in the early years was that demands for separate states would endanger the unity of the country.
C- it was hoped that if we accept the regional and linguistic claims of all regions, the threat of division and separatism would be reduced.
