My personal favourite "A young man once boasted in the theatre that "I am wise because I discourse with wise men" to which Epictetus replied "I discourse with rich men but I myself am not rich."

This reminds me of the Serenity Prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Funny how epictetus was a slave. I spent some time in jail and man, if you wanna meet some stoics jail is the best place. Most people are perfectly happy, despite their situation, because there's no other way to be.

Wow this is exactly how I was already thinking even before reading about stoicism. I just really have the feeling that no matter how bad my situation is, I always find the good of it and dont really keep complaining like most people would, I just have an peace of mind/spirit that allows me to do that.
