Rhiana Gunn-Wright, the policy lead for the Green New Deal, debunks some of the biggest myths about the policy. In this video she addresses the critics who say the Green New Deal is too fast, and it can't be done in ten years. But what does the science say?

Sadly we would have to cover half the planets land surface with wind and solar to provide the same energy we get from oil greatly accelerating our demise. You gotta get the science right.

What is going to power that combine harvester we see at 1:49 & the truck used to transport that harvester? What is going to power those massive 18 wheeler trucks that keep the just in time food & goods supply chains working?

I think we need to do something. We need to, at the very least, be moving towards a new zero emissions. But, before that will happen we absolutely have to get the politics of it in check. Being such a partisan country is killing so many chances of doing the right thing.

World don't work on assumptions. Realistic goals are necessary.

Smart phones use a lot more energy than rotary phones. The problem with energy efficiency is that we use the extra energy to do more stuff, which in the end uses more energy. Also, the US didn't get involved in WW2 until it got hit in the face. This is why nothing is being done. The problem doesn't feel close to home for most people.

The problem is the claim that this can't be accomplished in 10 years is not some opinion - its a conclusion based on meta-analysis feasibility reports found in scientific studies. Zero scientific studies or institutions have found that it would be feasible for this transition to work in 10 years. None of our US national laboratories support your timeframe, so what evidence are you going off of?

Even the IPCC Carbon Emissions Study doesn't state that we need a full scale energy transition in 10 years. It actually states that the world needs a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.

The intrenched economic interests will fight tooth and nail to monetize the value of their reserves they have on their books ! Only if the fossil fuel complex is nationalized out of existence will humanity have a chance to slow climate change .
