Inside a ratchet wrench/broken ratchet wrench

So my Allen brand Ratchet wrench was busted, so took it apart to see whats inside and how it works and to figure what broke.

I have my fathers snapon set that survived super storm sandy. All were locked and coated in rust. I took them all apart.. Cleaned and greased them.. They now are perfect working order. Nothing inside could break. Only needed a soaking in apple cider vin.. Along with cleaning and greasing.

Thanks for the video but it didn't quite give me the answer I was looking for.  It did lead me to HappyKhichen's comment, tho.  My stud wasn't broken but the wrench wasn't working right either.

I think my problem is the teeth (that point inward) of the inside of the wrench head body are starting to wear so that the pawl and teeth don't lock together well.  I flipped the pawl (before putting it back together) in hopes that the worn teeth would have less of an effect and it seems to have helped.  It still "slides" often when in the tightening direction but it's better.  I also really tightened the screw so there is less play with all the parts.  And, being more deliberate when I turn the wrench seems to help.

The little stud that broke actually holds the spring, not the pawl like you said, that's why the ratchet broke. The end of the spring goes into the pawl, then hooks onto that broken stud. When you turn the cover, that moves the spring which moves the pawl and changes the directions of the ratchet. Source: I work at Sears and rebuild ratchets for part of my job. I also know from experience those round head ratchets are a pain to repair.

I bought the Full Allen ratchet set around 15 years ago, all three ratchets never worked right, All slip or don't turn one way or the other. cheap cheap cheap.
