That ratchet is a copy of the plomb / proto flapper pawl mechanism, but there are many other mechanisms out there.
The most common other mechanisms being the Williams / MDF batwing pawl mechanism, and the S-K single pawl roundhead mechanism.
More recently the S-K / FACOM heartspring mechanism, and theres the Snapon floating pawl, the New Britain dual pawl round head, the PROTO Big Dawg, the EASCO RHFT dual pawl roundhead, and many more.

A lot of them are doing the same exact thing, moving one pawl out of the way while engaging the other.
Some however are using one pawl and simply pushing or rocking it into either direction.

Then theres the Clutch drive gearless mechanism which operates on the same principles as a coaster break in a bicycle hub.
