i like that the murder holes are unironically called murder holes.

In Austria, there is a castle (Hochosterwitz) sitting in a step rock, on the way up to it there are 12 gate houses with different nasty surprises, such as a deep pit within one.
The castle was never captured.

Instead of attacking the reinforced main gate it was much easier to make a few new gates by breaking through a few places in the walls or climbing over at many numerous places or tunneling under the walls.

Woo! Raglan. We really do have so many beautiful castles in Wales. I suppose being such a stubborn people the English feel the need to cover your land in castles really pays off

In Mount and Blade 2 those " Murder holes" are completely ineffective, and are more dangerous for the player than for those below.
