The cinematics really did feel like a decent reward for beating each act.

The dark tone of diablo 2 is what make's it so great. The story is so hopeless, but that's exactly what encourages you to fight!. Love this game.

"He moved with demonic speed"
- cuts to the wanderer, barely strolling
lol, that part always makes me giggle

These cinematics are still so much fun to watch. The pacing, the tone, the music were all on point.

I love Marius' place in the game. He serves as a foil/counterpoint to the PC of the game. Paralleling what you did, where Marius sat back and watched everyone get slaughtered, you reclaimed the citadel. Where he failed to enter the portal, you did. Ultimately you redeem Marius by the end by finishing what he couldn't.
I think its really important to do this for world building purposes, to make Marius so weak puts you into the world where the stakes are real and the average person is helpless against the forces of Hell, and it works as a backdrop to add to the power progression the player goes through, where Marius descends into damnation and eventual death, the player becomes a world saving hero by the end.

“east, always to the east”

definitely the most epic line on any starting cinematic of that time

"Like a thousand needles in my heart" Yes Marius, that's the feel of d3's plot.

I'ts amazing how this stuff just goes completely over your head as a kid, even though it's such a simple and straightforward plot, and these cutscenes are all just so EXTREMELY well done, i am so astounded how i didn't appreciate these at all when I was younger

I still can't understand what drove Blizzard to turn this masterpiece of storytelling into just another season of Power Rangers.

It cannot be overstated how important this game was to me as a kid. I remember a time in my life where even when not playing the game I would run through these cinematics in my mind over and over again. I loved this game, its atmosphere and its setting so damn much.

It is interesting coming back to view them like this, they bring forth a lot of emotion and memories.

Had a troubled home, and no internet or ability to play D2 at home. However I would spend all my afternoons at the local netcafe playing D2 and Counter-Strike, and often even the weekend nights as well. It was one of the primary ways I got away from it all. Only way I could afford all that time at the netcafe was because I was on their tournament team in Counter-strike and got free time "for practice, " but honestly I would spend most of that time on D2 instead.

I love how he looks at his pipe, and throws it on the floor in the opening scene. It's like he' saying "wtf am I smoking??!"

I always loved 17:38 cuz it's Mephisto telling Diablo what to do, and he's just like "Geez, alright, alright, big bro, just let me get back to my realm!" xD

"Not your foult? Tell me Merius, how was it not your fault." I miss this kind of character in Diablo 3... it's a shame that it was made for 12 years kid so it could sell more.
