Yeah...I've heard this before. Nowadays I charge it up in the evening and switch it off overnight.

All your tips are 100% correct as per my knowledge. But I used to charge the phones while I'm sleeping but with the devices turned off. And all devices last 3+ years.

I get your point about the battery and it makes sense. But, for me, it's a huge hassle, waking up to a phone at 15% charge. Just one more thing to worry about as I attempt to start my day. But I have started leaving my device off the charger for far longer stretches than before I watched this video.
As always, useful information and I thank you.

Hi, you're mostly correct on charge cycles etc. The cycle wear isn't linear, above 80% in general wears it a lot more, same with draining it below 30% or especially 20%. So, ideally you'd keep it between 60% and 80% if you can. If not at least between 30% and 80%

I'm doing it from 4 years and my phone didn't die yet

Good advice. Er, no... great advice! And at a level everyone can understand and implement. Thanks! 👍

Often overnight is the only convenient time to charge your phone. A workaround would be to use a power socket timer, plug your phone into it and set the time for the required charge time. It occured to me that there might be an app to time charging, the only apps I could find only monitor charging and don't pro-actively start and stop charging. Thanks for the video.

One huge reason I refuse to charge anything unattended for too long is due to all the lightning chargers that have frayed on average after a year or two of use. I also agree that it’s bad on battery life for many devices (laptops, phones, tablets, and even shavers), so I’ve been keeping this practice for many years.

The phone's battery is always protected, usually one layer of protection is at the battery where the battery disconnects itself if voltage goes too low or too high, or it gets hot. And the battery when it reaches 80% in many cases asks for current to be reduced.
A second circuit exists in the phone.
What suffers if you leave your phone on charge all night is not the phone battery but the charger as with no load being drawn it can go on the Fritz.

Hey Liron, really like your channel. I just discovered it. :)
On this one, personal e.g. I have a Huawei P10 for about 4 years now, the battery is in great shape after charging it overnight almost every single night (fast charging at 22.5 W). I still have a 1 full day of battery on it, same as it when it was new.
I heard about this controversy about overnight vs. non-overnight, lots of people say that on the new phones, it's not at all significant in a lifespan of a battery.
Maybe a 2-3% more deterioration, which for a 5 year lifespan, let's say it is not significant. The condition is to use the original chargers so that it charges it correctly.
Also, as I understood, that these new batteries don't really have that 0% or 100% (as the OS is showing)(min or max), it's actually more that 0% and less than 100%, to keep a healthy buffer.

Thank you, i can't make ppl understand this, amongst many other things...they call me manic overthinking and what ever fitting
their arrogant usage of things in general.

It's a subjective topic on whats best in regards to charging and discharging a phone. I don't use fast or super fast charging so charge normally. I charge mine overnight while it's turned Off, and always have done without issues over many years. I try not to let mine drop below 15%.

I actually have my phone charger on a electrical mains timer plug. Depending on the battery level I'll set it to one hour or 2 hours... So plug in then set it with one of the memory buttons then forget it. I'll have full charge in the morning & not connected all night. Same timer works for my Christmas tree btw ;)

What about the smart charging features in modern phones that disconnect the power when it's fully charged?

They need to SORT this battery problem out.
My grandfather (who worked as a scientist for the DSIR in New Zealand) nagged the battery industry to coat the batteries in metal - after getting tired of them leaking in his drawer.
