The Search for 4Chan’s Lost Album

In 2016, an anonymous user on 4Chan posted about a mysterious album they found at a charity shop in England. The user explained that they searched for hours, but couldn’t find a single scrap of information about the band online.

They then posted the tracks of the album for 4Chan to hear. Immediately, 4Chan was in love, the music was absolutely amazing, so they decided to help find the origins of the lost band Panchiko.

Users on 4Chan found everything from the source of the art on the front, to some of the references on the back cover to even figuring out that the band was based in the UK.

After about a year of slowly putting information together, a discord server was finally made to keep the search in one place.

Not mentioned in this short is the fact that the disc was heavily damaged due to the detective dye used in early CD-Rs degrading over time. Despite the damage to the recording, much of the beauty of the music survived, but it made finding a complete version much more important.
