Why The Rapture is a Bad idea - Greg Boyd

Is the Rapture really what you think it is? Most Christians believe that God will take his followers up to heaven before the really bad stuff starts on earth, but is this what the bible says? Is this view consistent with the loving God that Jesus shows us in the New Testament?

God's kingdom come, God's will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

THANK You and 2 other pastors are the only one speaking this 🙌🏿 why would God not allow us to go through the rapture when Paul and all his saints had to endure until the end so God also calls us to do so

Psalm 91:7-12

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

1 Thessalonians 4: 16For
the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice
of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ
will rise first. 17Then
we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the
clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the
Lord. 18Therefore comfort one another with these words.

To believe in a pretribulation rapture, I need to see some scripture that say's that after the rapture, there will be another 7 years before He comes back again. I will accept this view once this is clarified.

Revelation 17:18 NRSV
The nations raged, but your wrath has come, and the time for judging the dead, for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints and all who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”

Revelation says that TWO of the Churches will be Pre-raptured. Not all Christians will be. Some of us still have things to learn. And I also believe that some of us will be here to help save as many more as we can, before the final end.

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb

In Luke 12:36, the Word states that when Christ returns, He will be
returning from a wedding. In Revelation 19:7-8, we read about the
marriage itself. The marriage supper takes place before the marriage.
According to Jewish custom, the marriage contract, which often includes a
dowry, is drawn up first. The contract parallels the act of faith we
use when we trust Jesus to be our Savior. The dowry is His life, which
was used to purchase us. When it's time for the wedding, the groom goes
to the bride's house unannounced. She comes out to meet him, and then he
takes her to his father's house. This precisely correlates with the
events according to the pre-trib scenario. Jesus, the Groom, comes down
from heaven and calls up the Church, His Bride. After meeting in the
air, He and His Bride return to His Father's house, heaven. The marriage
supper itself will take place there, while down here on earth the final
events of the tribulation will be playing out. After the marriage
supper of Jewish tradition, the bride and groom are presented to the
world as man and wife. This corresponds to the time when Jesus returns
to earth accompanied by an army "clothed in fine linen, white and clean"
(Rev 19:14).

The passages that many people here are proof texting do not give good support for Rapture theology. The reason I say this is that if you didn't already believe in the rapture you would not understand the verse(s) to mean what you think they do. It's rather circular. Once I began to question this view, before hearing Greg's views, my understanding of the text began to change. Not only that, but other passages began to make more sense.
I realize how hard it can be to see past what we "know" is true, but the suffering of it will pass, and you will have gained wisdom.

The US is unique about rapture theology. Most Christians in the US believe in young earth, rapture and other theology that is just not true- but they are resistant to really dig in and learn.

What's with the focus on what he is wearing? And what's with the judgmental tone of the comments about his dress sense? God help us and give us grace.

I believe what Matthew 24 says. The church will go through tribulation. They will not have it easy as they think. They will be tested. And not only that! the church will operate in a supernatural way in Tribulation period, lot of people during that time will come to Christ. Read revelation 11.

I just looked up Revelations 11:17. It says nothing of the sort. It says “We give thee thanks Oh Lord God almighty, which art and was and is to come because you have taken to thee thy great power and has reigned “
What translation did you get that from?? Just curious because they say nothing of the sort. Ok, I just read verse 18, now I see. It’s actually verse 18, not 17. Just an fyi 😊

Jesus told the parable of ten virgins in which half were left behind (because they hadn’t repented) when the bridegroom came to take them to the marriage. That evening Jesus likened himself to the Bridegroom by promising to go and prepare a place for believers in his Father’s house then come to receive us there so we can be with him where he was going.

This is seen fulfilled in Rev 12:14 where a woman representing the bride of Christ (church in the commonwealth of Israel) goes to “her place” where she is nourished for 3.5 years away from the appearance of the serpent, which is a picture of the rapture right before the great tribulation starts. Then verse 17 fulfills Rom 11:25 which says Israel is hardened until the fullness of Gentiles comes in. And Rev 7 is another witness to this because it shows this Israelite revival right before the great tribulation starts, and the church meanwhile is celebrating her entry into heaven.

Small correction. The text quotes is Revelation 11:18 . . . not Rev. 11:17.
