According to his mother he has many cuts and bruises and he is only able to speak a couple words before he curls up into the fetal position.

I have known several people that just walked away from their homes at 17. One friend left for school and she just kept going. She didn't contact her mom for 7 years. My ex father-in-law left for school and decided to leave for California. He was gone 4 years before he called home.
Some people's home life are worth walking away from. I ran away at 17 and never returned. I was abused by my mom for my whole childhood. I left with no where to go but I knew I was never going home again.
