Salabhasana - the name comes from the Sanskrit words "shalabh" which means "grasshopper". It is back bend, or spine stretch, using the strength of the upper and middle back to lift the weight of the legs as high as possible from a starting position face down on the floor. It improves flexibility and coordination and increases strength and stamina. It helps to exercise the spine. Yoga expert Keerthana from Rutland gate studio shows us how to do Salabhasana (The Locust Pose).

Years ago I underwent surgery for an inguinal hernia and the surgeon applied a mesh to contain it. Can I do salabhasana? Or ardha salabhasana?

The original asana.. hands on the sides of the stomach.. palms facing the ground and then lift the lower body..but this variation helps raise body more!
