Fundamental infield drill

Core to routine plays. Save & practice this. Here how ⬇️

I have these trapezoids called agility trainer pros from @sklz. But these can be circled drawn in the driveway. They are just visuals to tell us where to step

Here we are working the last two steps: right then left. This is to get momentum to 1B

Then we field. Presenting hands low. Pinning the ball against the flat glove.

Funneling while we “replace the feet” with our shuffle. Pay attention to the shuffle footwork here.

Then we separate into a strong power position. This is where we throw from. It’s its weak, or unbalance, the throw might be weak or an error 😭

Damn. There are a lot of experts taking time off there pro coaching jobs to critique this man for doing an outstanding job as a dad

This is good stuff. Once he takes the shapes away, that kid will never have to think about it again. Fundamentals are best when they’re just built in.

I’m a first baseman, so I don’t get nearly as many grounders, but fielding mechanics are much more important than people realize. When you get to higher level ball, you need to get the ball out of your glove quickly and this drill is really good for that

I’d set them up a little closer together considering his step isn’t as large as yours, and this was set up clearly for your stride as an adult, so it’s understandable why it might be a little hard for him to stay within them

The way I was taught and it’s so simple

“Right left field, Right left throw”

The right left throw part is where right foot replaces left in the middle yellow section.

Y didn’t y’all move the boxes closer together for the kid, he doesn’t have the same leg length as an adult

Nothing better than working on fundamentals

Should be bringing your hands to your right hip after fielding the ball. Makes for a smoother/quicker transition to throwing.

Learned this basic fundamental 60 years ago. Never forgot it.

Notice the extra small glove...The instructor is teaching this young man to concentrate on his glove being a mere extension of his hand.

My father taught me how to catch at 5 years old groundouts but guess what, with my bare hands. People criticized him, but he said this “if my son going to play baseball, or ball player, then he need to know he’s going to play a man game not a soft game.” When I got hit with groundballs, yes I would cry I was a kid but my dad would say “it’s okay mijo you got this, next time mijo I know it hurts but when you grow little bit older you’ll understand why.” And thanks to that getting hurt with groundballs it’s numbed for me I rather get hit than bobble it. And props to this father that is teaching his son. The good old days with my pops.

As an old third baseman, that’s my jam.

Hey, pops. Your legs and feet are slightly larger than junior’s.

Perhaps a scaled-down version of the model for him?

Although the “dad” was moving extra slow for this demonstration, the kid is still locking in with his target extremely fast. I think baseball players have the best hand/eye coordination out of any sport.

i always felt hopping was much quicker than stepping

Second most happens thing, ball goes through legs. What if we back the glove up with the legs 🦵? Just a thought for future MLB players

Seeing a lot of stupid comments in this thread. That was beautifully done for such a young kid. Wonderful job coach!
