How can we turn this 1 bedroom apartment into 3 bedrooms? It's easier than you might think!

when it comes to moving a kitchen, as long as the hob is electric, you only need to worry about the waste water, so as long as it's next to a bathroom, it's possible!

i think there will be an all out war between the siblings as to who gets unrestricted balcony access

I'm not a home designer, but you've certainly helped improve my sims builds, so thank you!

I would simply build extra rooms with galvanized square steel and some heavy duty screws i borrowed from my aunt

This is perfect IF you can move the kitchen plumbing and vent.

Not the easiest puzzle indeed but here is the trick to solve that kind of situation : when it comes to domestic environments, just count how many windows there are.

In this case he found out there are 4 windows so in order to distribute one for each room we have to accept some compromise and the one he chose was to steal the window from the kitchen.

One of the most important tricks I learned in architecture school ;)

I wouldn't have a problem with the bathroom being far from everything else, I actually hate when bathrooms are close to living areas and I have to feel like I need to be super quiet. Keep it awaaaay. And I love the flow of the bedrooms in the final product, how they're all together. Very cool

Ensuring the water run isn't too dramatic was a great touch!

I would've put the parents bedroom so they could access the balcony, and the kids bedroom would be where their bedroom is. Then they could even have a closet with a half bath.

Obviously YouTube is fed you into my feed but this is the absolute most amazing structuring and livable house adjustment, I just don't have words to describe how effortlessly you've gone through all of the issues for people I've known and personally I've experienced. Flat out this is amazing

I think it would be nice if both kid bedrooms had access to the balconies via glass doors. They could hang out together! 😊

Fascinating! I would have expanded the dining room up, taking 40% of the 'bedroom', and then halved the 'living room' creating three separate bedrooms and combining dining and living without moving the kitchen

This is amazing. I think the only thing I would change is trying to flip the primary suite & the kids rooms A) so nobody can access my kids’ rooms from the balcony; and B) so nobody’s fighting over who gets the balcony & who gets the window. The primary suite looks like it’s already got 2 windows. I’d put a wall down the middle & give both kids a long galley-type room with lofted beds along the wall, slightly away from the windows with desks underneath. Room for storage/dresser near the window & a bit of room to play/stretch/be angsty on the floor ❤

I would have taken the door/wall that leads to the kitchen from the entryway out, and move the walls that separate the existing bedroom & living area from the rest of the apartment "up" about 1/3 of the way. Then install an additional wall to split the old living room area into two smaller bedrooms - this will be a little awkward with the split window, but maybe set up a thing for the siblings to pass notes and such between the rooms to make it fun, and everyone still gets a window in their room. The big bedroom will still have space for a closets, and the smaller ones could have wardrobes if not small closets.
For the rest of the space, I'd set up a designated entry, with a bench seat/coat & backpack hangers, along the wall shared by the shower. If you tile that small area, you can carpet the rest to designate it as the new living room (from entry to small bedrooms), and have plenty of space for a nice dining area, and maybe even set up a small lounge or workspace (for crafting, homework, and the like) in front of the new main bedroom.
I think it would be easier for everyone to reach the bathroom from their bedrooms, expands the communal living area, and everyone gets access to the balcony.
I really don't like the idea of everyone having to go through one child's bedroom to hang out on the balcony. <3

In the UK you wouldn't get planning permission because the 2 smaller bedrooms would not have an escape route if there was a fire in the kitchen. Big no no. If you created a corridor behind the kitchen by moving the kitchen more into the lounge then it would work, it also gives access via the hallway to the bathroom

I don't know what rules apply elsewhere, but in Norway, bedrooms should have east access to escape, e.g. a window in case of a fire

Your stuff is genius. I've designed an extremely basic rectangular home and my husband built it. Unfortunately we had to sell it to pay off my husbands debts. We moved to the country and I've designed another large dream home but really should get professional advice before my husband starts building it we currently live in 2 6x6m2 fold out shipping container homes for a family of 6. I want my forever home to bring joy .

Wow that's insanely clever. But how are people rennovating an apartment? Are they tenants or owners? Also redoing both the plumbing and electric/gas for the stove is gonna be rouuuugh (but so worth it)
