In this video we're exploring the possibility of forged kevlar being any good at all. Will it be as good as forged carbon in terms of looks, or maybe even better?

Congratulations on a successful experiment. We learned that forged kevlar can be molded but is difficult to finish and looks a bit too much like wood.

Something that might have looked better is a forged carbon / kevlar composite material to give the part more texture

Just an Idea. I think if you pull a vacuum on the layup. It should help impregnate the fibers better greatly helping speed the finish time.

Wood grain effect is kinda nice. Would go well with for example w124 interior with all wood panels.

OO great video, im glad you committed to the end to see the finished product. I agree with you it doesnt look as flashy as carbon but its still cool IMO. For some reason though i dont think it looks as cool as the effort put in. The Kevlar just doesnt catch the light the same way carbon does

I really like the look. Very cool. When you were trimming it with the blade a part of me died lol. Cut away from yourself!

Btw a quick trick to demold with PETG is to sink it in boiling water for a few min then it will be pliable and you can just peal it off the part!

Interesting experiment, never seen forged Kevlar before. It does look cool, but I guess from a distance could be mistaken for wood. Worth a try though from a "what if?" perspective, but doesn't really have the same impact as carbon.

Love your videos, always entertaining and informative 🍻

Yes i love working with carbon kevlar but it's bloody hard to cut i have to buy new surgical scissors alot as thay cut very nice but don't last long.

maybe not the best part of app for the Kevlar but it was cool none the less. I might have to try this on one of my door inserts since I have a tan interior.

Have you done any strength testing on forged CF vs forged Kevlar?

Might work better w/ much shorter strands or a blend w/ chopped glass tbh, but yeah its not as pretty as chopped carbon

The forged carbon shift knob looks way better, this one unfortunately looks like wooden flakes inside resin, not that spectacular. But great video!

That forged carbon gear lever was actually desirable :)

Reminds me of those old composite AK 47 magazines

ok but now i'm wondering how many layers of kevlar fabric, put into a mold for like, a sci fi armor breastplate or even just a normal modern armor plate shape, to get up to say IIA or IIIA stopping-power? Can you imagine making some Halo cosplay that can actually stop bullets? I feel like that's the dream...

Also I'm thinking this color/pattern might actually look good on something like a traditional wood rifle stock, I wonder how its properties like weight & tensile strength compare to like, walnut or traditional wood laminates?

I see that you use easycomposites products. Aren’t this products available in obi or Bauhaus ?
