I found this extremely interesting and somewhat comforting. I’ve always suspected, due to lack of skill, I sometimes used too many eq’s and compressors in my chain, but it seems not. Cheers indeed

Wow--the answer was much more complicated than I expected! I have been doing EQ cuts before compression, then EQ boosts afterward. Time to go back to the drawing board! Thanks Streaky

Please do a demonstration on how you master a song, preferably a rock song with real instruments.. show the step by step process and why you would use a particular piece of gear and so on.. thank you

Useful information.

A tip for you:
Remove saying ‘kind of’, ‘sort of’, ‘essentially’, etc.
it takes away confidence and it’s inaccurate in the context you’re speaking to.. bad habit..

Just think about it. It's simple. There are no rules. The goal is to make it sound good. So if it sounds good, and everyone is happy, then it's good.

Hi Streaky, any chance of doing a video on using a de-esser when mastering on the entire mix and settings / things to look for etc. The only previous video I can see you've done on it was with hardwear. A plugin video would be great 👍. Cheers

Great tips! All this make total sense and is the way to go I'm sure! Often I make a mix to sound "bad" with exaggerated settings intentionally to "excite" the frequencies all over the place and I make it sound "good" again later in the chain. Maybe I shouldn't do this haha, it may not be technically right but I'm weird so I use weird methods, fitting with my personality 😂 I have a lot to learn so this is why I'm here! 😁 Loving to learn the right way to do as you teach!
