Oral B Series IO9 Teardown (How to open up)

This is the simple process of how to properly open up the Oral-B IO9. This can also be used as a manual override if the brush keeps turning itself on and off.

Thank you for the video a lot, and big thank to Braun engineers whoever they are for not gluing this thing shut or not using any adhesives like smartphones have nowadays. I just ordered io9 from Amazon and since battery is a consumable in any electronics, I was wondering what it takes to replace a battery on this one. Now I feel way more confident about that!

very good video. Very good explanation. Replacing the battery took me 1 minute max. Thank you

Thanks for the video, I must say that putting it back together was a bit more challenging that I had hoped for and the seal might not be quite the same anymore. Defenitly wouldn't do this out of curiousity on a new brush again. The seal at the bottom of the brush is easy enough but the one at the top has to be sqeezed back under the metal ring.

Once you've gently pushed the housing back over the assembly (without putting unnecesary force on the charging coils at the bottom of it) the seal is sitting on top of the metal ring. To make it look like new again you need to find a way to push the seal down and under the metal ring and then back up into it. I ended up using the knife from my pocket knife (keep the cutting surface away from the seal) as it was the only thing thin and strong enough I could find.

Place the brush flat on the table, and place the knife between the metal ring and seal, again making sure the knife can't cut the seal. This should guide the seal without damaging it, and using a slightly wider object like a credit card to push the seal towards the middle of the handle. Once you've got it started you can slowly work your way around the handle and afterwards you can gently push the seal up into the ring. I ended up using my nails but just be gentle with sharp objects, you don't want to damage the seal too much. Keep doing that all the way around till it won't go any further (you can probably see the slight ring on the seal from where the metal ring used to end).

My io is not opening from bottom. It doesn't twist even little. Any other way?

couldn't get that bottom piece off even using maximum force, factory reset still kind of works (holding down both buttons for a while), going to try a few more times to get it off, but feel ready to order something cheaper this time around like the io3 perhaps given these kind of issues

I recently bought this toothbrush, I am a bit concerned that you mentioned and showed that the motors are corroded on your brush after such a short amount of time(the brush is supposed to last anywhere from (2-5 years), could you give a guess why that corrosion took place? Is there anything that blocks the top that is normally exposed when the toothbrush is put together from water tricking down to the motors because that would be my guess for the corrosion. And did you put the battery back after removing it and was your "turning on and off by itself" problem solved? Anyways sorry for the long comment but thanks!

My battery is also useless. It says it's fully charged and then will suddenly die. It's a nightmare. Seems like this model has tonnes of problems. I'll buy a new battery and see how it goes. Thanks for the video. Ps, when I opened it the ceramic ring at the bottom was broken. I don't know if it was always broken or it broke while opening it...

Man I wish I had seen this video first. There's a video that when the guy turns it counterclockwise it makes a clicking noise and then comes off. I couldn't get mines to do that so I used a tool that's scratched my brush a little bit on the bottom but now I realized I did feel it loosen a little bit and I didn't realize that's all I had to do was pull the bottom off. Oh well I'm not going to cry over spilled milk I did replace the battery. Now I'll have to see if it holds a charge.

Where do you get a replacement battery for the IO series 9? Also, what kind of battery is it?

Thank you for your time!

A big thank you for your video which allowed me to see the type of battery and wonder if an AA battery would be compatible?
Un grand merci pour ta vidéo qui m'a permis de voir le type de batterie et de me demander si une pile AA serait compatible ?

I dropped my brush and there is a magnetic latch inside that grey top bit, this latch sticks to and rotates the brush heads, any help on how to replace that part would be greatly appreciated

Nice vid Voyager. My brush died after 3 months of use - I’m hoping a battery replacement will be the fix and that it’s not totally fried. Any reccomendations for what battery I should use for replacement? Thanks.
