The reveal of her being a toxic ass bitch is a really good twist. At the start of Baum’s journey we’re certain that this is a love story. We don’t know a lot about her but we trust Baum’s perspective and believe him when he says how great she is. It would be different if we saw her as a bad guy from the beginning. We hate her because we had high hopes for her and she let us down

Though to say Baam is selfless does not encapsulate his feelings towards Rachel. He is obsessed with Rachel. He would rather break somebodies legs and drag her back to his cave than to accept that for her, her wish was more important than Baam. Which is a great parallel.

Rachel is the actual embodiment of selfishness which in contrast to baam really shows you how in the beginning baam had no idea what was going on and was naive but when he realised what she did he still decided to stay true to his selflessness.
