This is just a theory, but I think I might have figured why Rachel wants to see the stars: it may have been hiding in plain sight this entire time.

My theory is that the tower is not just connected to one outside world but multiple outside worlds and when Arlene left the tower she ended up in an outside that she didn’t originally come from

Heres another theory:
Maybe the Outside God could only resurrect Bam in the confines of the Tower, so Arlene decided to leave a fragment (Rachel) of herself with Bam, to protect and prepare him for the tower. She left her fragment with the goal of leaving the tower and seeing the stars as she did, so may be they could meet again and also with information how to leave the tower and other detailed information of the tower, Jahad and the chosen one (Bam), but over time those memories became clouded and Rachel was of the impression, that she was the chosen one.

What if the reason Jahad stopped anyone from climbing further is because there is no top, or the tower is far too large for anyone to reach the top. That he found out in all those thousands of years they spent climbing they were still nowhere close, and that rather than continuing taking on progressively harder tests as all of his companions perished one by one he decided to end it there, to set that floor as the end goal rather than having people eternally wondering what they'll find one floor up. By setting an end point and just ruling as king he created an end goal that people could work towards, one that only the best of the best could reach but that was attainable: the status of ranker. Once you're a ranker you're done climbing, and you've basically just been told "go do something else for the rest of your life", it means people will further explore and settle the floors that have been discovered, allowing for society to prioritize something other than the endless pursuit of the top of the tower.

I love your theory man it really makes me question Rachael's true motives and what she truly desires, can't wait for her to appear in season 3 and find out what her 3 wishes were.

I always thought something similar, where Arlene never quite exactly left the tower to the outside world. Don't know how exactly Rachael knows everything whether maid, or found a journal rather than a pocket maybe. And her goal was to become the hero and just literally see the outside world she's heard about. So she pushes everything away, because she thinks once she reaches outside it will be all merry and nice. I do think Rachael was probably shunned for something and thought I'll prove all of them wrong and become the hero so people will like me.

I have a feeling rachel doesnt want to see the stars...

Some point down the road i remember headon saying to Rachel that she does not long to see the stars, her wish is to be a star

Back then i didnt understand... But it was always weird to me cause i thought of it in the literal sense... Being a star is not literal, its a metaphor to shining bright above others. That make sense and was already confirmed.

Her wish was to be the star for Arlene, be the one in the prophesy, the one to resume the climbing... In a sense, rachel wishes to be the main character in pentaminum story, and for that she's climbing.

In the beginning we see a panel where Rachel is in the cave and she is being dragged by her hair and screaming

It's a pretty small panel and super easy to miss, but very extremely important I think. I Suspect the area she's in with Bam is some kind of prison she is forced to work at. Because I've also thought the exact same thing like wait if she's from outside the tower and she is able to leave the cave (unlike bam) then WHY is her goal to see the stars...

Another layer to that theory would be Rachel's desire to be reborn. Throughout the story and especially after the data floor, we see that Rachel has a constant desire to be reborn or be someone else. So it is hard to say if Rachel really only desires to see the stars and leave the tower. Her desire for the stars is definitly influenced or inspired by Arlene. If one takes this further maybe her true desire is more close to being Arlene or someone like her. This would makes sense if we follow the theory that Rachel was Arlenes maid and/or she comes from a family that worshipped Arlene. In a sense, the stars would reperesent Arlene or even more something that even the great Arlene longs for or worships. This in turn would also serve as a point of hope for Rachel and a justification for her wrongdoings beyong her own desire and inferiority complex. In her mind, she is pursuing something that is greater than anyone else in this tower and since the world is so very unfair to her - powerless, no talent, no beauty -, she is not only justified to do the things she does but she is required - against her good and kind nature - to do them in prusuit of a higher goal.

That makes so much sense, replacing Bam in killing Jahad and continue climbing the tower per Arlene’s wishes.
What if Arlene suddenly appears after the floors are reopened since she can’t die like V

Hey Joe, your deductions were really good.
I have a very crazy theory myself.
What if the cave where Bam was found at first was part of some experimentation. Like it's a huge experiment workshop just outside the tower and the cave is a small part of it. And the light that shined when Rachel came in was from an artificial sky or light source. Also, maybe Rachel used to work there and found Arlene's diary. She read it and wanted to be the one in the prophecy because she wanted to leave that place instead of Bam.
There is another thing....
I have always found the name 25 th Bam really weird. I understand that it was because he was born on the 25 th night or something. But, what if it signifies that he was in fact the 25 th version and there were 24 failed attempts at creating him.
Okay, I am thinking too much.😅

And in addition to that, she also aims to gather the thorns. We all know that it is the thorn that could slit the King's throat.

I feel like there has to be a certain reason Jahad stopped climbing the tower at that floor. Maybe he wasn't strong enough for the next floor or something else was stopping him

Ah, I love this discussion, thank you for bringing this topic.
Everything you explained in this video does make sense. The fact that there's Jahad's symbol in the cave could mean that cave is in Jahad's territory & if I'm not mistaken, Rachel used to tell Baam they couldn't go further than visiting the hill near the cave. So, someone must've watched over them.

But... SIU ever stated in his blog post that unlike Wangnan who knows much about inside of the tower, Baam & Rachel know the secret of what's outside the tower. What does that mean?
I really look forward to witnessing how SIU explain Baam and Rachel' story as it's the most important detail in this manhwa.

About Jahad, as SIU has the habit of showing us "bad people aren't born bad", and that "there must be reasons behind every action", I believe Jahad has his own reasons for closing the gate of 135th floor too 😂 Like, he's not a natural evil. There must be something there that forced him to close the door.

I have my own theory. At the beginning of season 2 we are told the story of a man who built a tower to reach the star he loved. Maybe Rachel has a connection to that man and wants to see him again from here is her desire to get to the top of the tower. My theory comes from Rachel's rhetorical question ... why did he build it alone?

alexeicurti

I feel like a lot will be explained if we ever learn about the symbol in Baam's cave, it does kind of have two of the three dots underneath the three eyes, but whatever, the topic for discussion was Rachel's goal.

Seeing the stars does have all of those connections with Arlene's goal and possibly killing Zahard since he's in the way for whoever wants to reach the top.

However, as you have pointed out, that being her dream wouldn't make much sense if she could, y'know, freely come and go as she pleased when "outside the tower" caring for Baam, so obviously something must have prevented her from doing so. We were told that Arlene left the tower and contacted the outside god (outside being the key word), that combined with Baam and Rachel being irregulars chosen by the tower leads me to believe that the two of them really were outside of the tower.

With that, there isn't much we know about Rachel's past life there, we know that she somehow gained knowledge, that she took care of Baam, that she wanted to enter the tower and someone pulled her hair once.

It also seems plausible that regardless of how much the fanbase hates Rachel they will never hate Rachel more than Rachel herself, which doesn't exactly suggest to me a nice happy upbringing of freedom.

Interestingly, when Baam recounts Rachel telling him about the world outside of his cave, I find one aspect of it very interesting:
How Rachel seems to have told Baam that only "the chosen people" get to dance and enjoy. If Rachel really was one the "chosen people" who enjoys "the world of light and happiness", I don't feel she'd say it that way. To me it signals that perhaps Rachel wasn't one of the chosen people, not really a maid, but more like a slave, working in slavery for whatever reason (maybe not literal slavery, possibly some kind of cinderella predicament but harsher)

On another note, we have the whole prophecy deal, right?
"God's messenger shall place the red thorn in that child's hands..." God's messenger, the messenger's of God are generally known as angels which are commonly represented as having wings.

I can take this two ways

Looking deeper into the angels, the modern view we have of them being beautfil is not the original one, they were once viewed as monstrous figures who struck fear in those who saw them, kind of like, let's say.... a monster. Which Arlene called Baam, if God's messenger is supposed to deliver the red thorn, it stands to reason said messenger should obtain it first, which would mean Rachel is aiming to be the one who gets the thorn handed to them in order to slay Zahard, with Baam being the frightening monster of an old angel while still being a pure being (or a more modern angel). This would make Rachel the child of prophecy, which goes against what other characters have told us, but they're just characters, they may be wrong or lying, dunno.

The other way, well Rachel chose Ikarus, Ikarus had wings, she could be the angel to place the red thorn in Baam's hands. Wether she wants to or not, everything she's doing could be for the purpose of having Baam murder Zahard, she has been kind of egging him on to chase her up the tower in a way. This would make her "I don't care what Baam is to you, I'm the one from the legend who will obtain the thorn" take on a different meaning. She could be defying Arlen, saying that she doesn't care that she thinks Baam is a monster instead of her child, she will be the one to deliver the thorn to him and fulfill her wish, so in a way she could have been setting Baam up to gain strength, independence, motivation and knowledge of his own as preparation for his inevitable fight with Zahard

My mind is blown once again. Interesting, and maybe if she does this she breaks free from a spell Arlene cast on her to prevent her from getting the freedom outside the tower she wants.

4:02 I always assumed the "cave" was more like a "basement"/"dungeon" within the tower itself.
She wants to be the Kingslayer. The "Hero" after all. Did she give JVG the name "Baam" to reinforce the thought of her goal to herself?
9:36 So can it be argued that's why she felt JVG was getting her way? The (k)night protects from the sun or some bs.

Ok about that one bit about Arlene still being alive outside the tower
I don’t think she is still around. Either her immortality contract given by the administrators has no power outside the tower since it wouldn’t make sense for them to have power outside, or the outside god took her immortality to revive Bam. Honestly there is no evidence for the second one but I just don’t see the outside god being some benevolent being that just revives anyone under no conditions.

This theory is really good! My theory on Rachel is that her last wish was the power to kill Jahad but I don't think it will be enough. I would like to think both Rachel and Bam work together to defeat Jahad but I highly doubt it at this point. The whole icarus thing makes sense as well! Rachel kept pushing Bam, thinking it would cause his downfall but in the end.. she is just pushing herself!
I also wonder when we are gonna see Rachel again. Maybe in the last battle or something. I dunno! lol! Awesome video, Joe! Truly enjoyed it. Made me think about alot! ^^ (Well, duh. It's a theory video! they always make you think hard! haha!)

This is such an interesting theory! I had totally forgotten about how much Rachel knows about the Tower and the rings and what not. Maybe Rachel and Bam will team up at the very end to kill Jahad together??
