Americans use the the term 'pound sign' for the #, whilst british use the term pound sign for the £. The term 'hash tag' comes from the Twitter invention of the ability to tag posts of interest.

Learnt html yesterday (with the help of youtube), think i tried this already but... does this still work with the new twitter API. Thought they replaced the search function... and i don't understand the updated code.... wasted a bit of time before i realised that.

It doesn't work animore, twitter restricted their API and now you need like 4 passwords

Twitter has officially dropped support for APIv1. There are other ways available to you... check out Twitter's developer section.
