It wouldn't be so insulting if they had made it like 3 - 4 bucks (AUD for me lol) for a pack, you get the experience of opening proxy alpha packs and don't have to worry about completely wasting your money.

It's just so confusing, that they thought anyone would be happy with the way this product is being presented. The truly sad thing is that there will be people who buy this product, and vindicate the disgusting business practices of WotC, if Secret Lair and Universe Beyond is any indication a large portion of mtg players/collectors have zero self control.

I'm not sure if you ever played the TCG called universal fighting system but I was just talking to my pod that a lot of the decisions wotc has made recently make make me remember what happened to it. I feel like the game has gone in a different direction ever since throne of eldraine* with the collector's packs. Then there was secret lair. Then set boosters. Then the walking dead secret lair with mechanically unique cards. Then universes beyond. Then double feature. Then double masters 2022 and 4 booster boxes. Then infinity with stickers attractions and legal joke cards. In just 3 years the game is no longer recognizable. As a player who started during ice age; this does not feel like a polished game of 30 years but now simply feels like a mismanaged cash grab that is wearing the skin of something I used to love and now am concerned about the future of.

Totally agree with you Matt. And appreciate you are taking a stand against this dumpster fire of a price for this product. This 30th Anniversary product at the current $1k price for a box (four 15 card packs), is a massive slap in the face to the average players who are the very people who got Wizards to their 30th Anniversary in the first place. A 30th anniversary party intended for the whales & investors/speculators. So gross

If it stays at the $1k price tag (likely closer to $1200 aft conversion for this Canadian). Then don't buy this product. Boycott it. Get all MTG content creators to tell their subs, fans etc to not buy it.

If we buy this product at the $250/15 card pack price tag. And for non tournament legal cards to boot. We are effectively telling Wizards we are ok with them charging $250+ for a current, in print 15 card booster pack. That doesn't even have to be tournament legal

I've mentioned this in other places. Perhaps Wizards can include a real nice fancy, shiny "Greed" as a box topper in each box. Would be fitting. Right?

I designed a game and started playtesting it years ago as a game similar to magic but thought it would never be possible to compete. Maybe it is time to dust off those cards lol

So far out of 20+ videos
One guy says he’s spending 30k on them
Another said he’s spending more than 300k
EVERYONE ELSE knows how shit the pricing is
Pokémon did something similar for their 20th anniversary but with much more reasonable pricing

I don't. I think it might have a short term upside... but I think the secondary market will be a garbage fire.

The way I will play this is if CE/ICE drop a bunch in price I will buy THOSE!

Imagine this... What if WotC instead made a $30 bundle to celebrate 30 years of magic and it contained 10 30th anniversary mystery booster packs (arguably enough for small draft or sealed between two people) that could contain anything from the last 30 years (minus the reserve list). And in the token slot you had a chance (similar to how the list functions in set boosters) to get one of these WotC made proxies of the power 9, dual lands, black lotus, etc. Now that...would have been way cooler. And because it is bundle, it should have had a land pack that had basic lands from various sets. It would have been a way to celebrate with everyone! Instead... it’s a whale party... 💩 🐳

110 rares with duals doubled so effectively 120 rares in the set. Only the duals or power nine are still relevant, so 29 good rares and 91 busts…. with each 4 packs containing 5 rares on average and 1 in 4 chance to pull a dual or power. That means for your $1000 you should on average pull one dual land proxy and a bunch of junk proxies. Only a 7.5% chance to pull any power proxies. I’m not surprised that WOTC Stock fell from $80 to $62 on this wonderful news. The company lost over $1 billion in five minutes and they deserve it.

Proxies for wizards but they are counterfeit for most of us because we don’t own the original’s. Basically buying counterfeit for most people if they decide to buy.
