New BMW XM Concept - Revealed
Показать описание
The ultra-stylish SUV boasts 750 horsepower and a theoretical electric range of 30 miles. BMW unveiled their first M model, the M1, in 1978. It was also the Bavarian manufacturer's first mid-engined car, with a 3.5-liter inline-six engine producing 274 horsepower (201 kilowatts) and 243 pound-feet (329 newton-meters) of torque. More than 40 years later, BMW is introducing the Concept XM, the company's second standalone M model.
Despite the fact that the Concept XM and M1 are legally siblings, they are worlds apart. The XM is a V8-powered plug-in hybrid crossover with 750 horsepower (551 kW) and 737 pound-feet (1,000 Nm) on tap. Even better, this wacky design foreshadows a production car that will appear in 2022, most likely for the 2023 model year. With the help of the newly developed M Hybrid drive system, the XM can theoretically drive up to 30 miles (48 kilometers) on battery power alone. BMW isn't revealing details like engine displacement, battery size, or straight-line speed, but it's likely to hit 60 mph in under four seconds.
The front end of the Concept XM features two massive kidney grille pieces, which set it apart from any other BMW we've seen. Whether it's a concept or not, these are among the widest kidney grilles ever seen on a BMW. With slim LED headlights split into two independent modules dwelling on either side, the large grille frames include lighted surrounds that give it a unique presence at night.
Each corner is adorned with massive 14-spoke, 23-inch wheels – the largest on any BMW – and triangular quad-exhaust tips line the back bumper. The ultra-slim LED taillights reach from the trunk lid to the rear fenders, and the rear glass has a distinctive wedge-shaped design with two BMW roundels engraved into each corner – a subtle nod to the M1's pair of insignia on its flying buttresses.
The interior of the XM is just as divisive as the outside, but we think it's prettier. The driver-focused cockpit combines vintage-look brown leather with copper and carbon fiber elements to create a truly gorgeous environment to sit in. And the most recent version of iDrive 8 graces the dash with a large curving interface that looks as amazing as it ever did.
The aquamarine-colored, diamond-stitched velvet bench seat in the second row gives the two rear passengers a lounge-like feel. Velvet, to be precise. Furthermore, the headliner has a unique three-dimensional prism structure that is fully lighted, creating an interior light display when combined with the ambient LEDs, which are illuminated in all three BMW M colors.
For the time being, the BMW Concept XM is only a concept, but the production version will arrive next year. Of course, no pricing information is provided, but we doubt the XM will be inexpensive — a $150,000 check won't get you much.
