How Aerial Photography Works

Over the past several months, you may have seen quite a few aerial photos of stored aircraft all over the world. But these are taken while directly over an active airport, how's that possible?

Today, I go behind the scenes with Edmonton Regional Helicopters to find out!

Alex… most of your videos are of the entertainment genre. This one was educational which made it especially good. Thank you so much for the information you provided. However when that helicopter door was opened, my stomach had butterflies just watching it.

Cool! It’d be cool to book them one day for sightseeing tours!

Very good video. Great to see what an airfield looks like from above. I bet it was scary flying with the door removed.

Good afternoon Alex .
Now that was different and "very" interesting.
Thank you for sharing it with us and be safe out there...:):):)

Looked like a fun video to make.
I usually take pictures out my plane's storm window. This also results in the wing being in the frame, a look I like. I can't use a polarizer to reduce glare and reflections out the windshield. The acrylic gives really interesting (but not necessarily desirable...) effects.

Awesome insight into some aerial photography Alex. Excellent overhead shots of all those aircraft parked up.
Liked 😊👍

Great work!!! Always love seeing things from the other side. Since 9/11 the contact between pax and upfront flight crews is so minimal this vid is a refreshing change! Thanks! Keep up your great work! Cheers 🍻

Wait, isn’t YYZ larger then Edmonton, I mean Edmonton only has 2 runways unlike Toronto that has 5 runways. Edmonton airport looks small compared to YYZ

Just curious why you made this video in Edmonton, not your hometown Calgary? One suggestion when doing these types of interviews would be to show yourself a few times and not just the person being interviewed.

Also, what was the source for the your statistic that YEG is the largest airport (in area) in Canada? I was looking for that data to compare airport size but haven't found anything. I know Montreal Mirabel (YMX) was once the largest airport in the world by land area but much of the expropriated land has been returned to their owners over the years when the original plans to make YMX a huge megahub with 6 runways never happened..
