But this is fantastic! Of course I knew about ebooks, and someone I knew awhile back self published that cost $$. But I had no idea you could publish your own books for free! Game changer...
My husband has written several childrens books that everyone he shows to thinks are very good, but so far no luck getting them published traditionally. My brother likewise has already written at least 2 books. I am going to tell him about this for sure.
Heck, even I have books: collections of poetry that I have been writing since college and have toyed with submitting a poem here and there but last I heard you had to publish quite bit of poetry before you could publish an entire book of poems... I wonder if these companies work with childrens books or poetry as well?

SUPER important point here...

You can PUBLISH your book for free, but you should expect to spend some money CREATING that book in the first place.

Editing, proofreading, formatting and cover design will cost money. The exact amount depends on the scope of your book.

Gillian spent ~$700, and we typically advise people to be prepared to invest ~$1000 to achieve a professional outcome, so this video's pretty accurate to our experience.

There's also marketing costs to consider, both in building an audience before launch, and sustaining sales going forward.

Can you do it all yourself for free?

Sure, if you just want to PUBLISH a book, and don't care about the outcome.

If you want to publish a SUCCESSFUL book, invest in making it successful.

You might think you're saving money doing stuff yourself, but amateur books lose out in the long run when they don't make sales.
