This video demonstrates how to Factory Reset Philips Hue Bulbs using a Hue Dimmer Switch. This was the only method that worked for me, after trying numerous apps and direct coding methods.

This allowed me to use all of my bulbs on a new hub.

Thanks Madison for being my hand model :)

Hey man,

unfortunatelly this is not working for me. I am using the dimmer switch model (on and off button is the same, on the top of the switch). So when holding the on/off button, the bulb flashes but is paired with the dimmer instead of beeing resetet and ready to pair. My deconz dongle cant find it. Is there something different with the new version?

You my new friend are god sent, this simple fix isn’t even known by most Hue employees or at least acknowledged besides the supervisor after a 2 hour phone call. For that I say thank you so 😊

And it’s really that simple… I’d misplaced my Bridge and lights 3 years ago whilst moving. Bought a new set, and recently stubbled across the original light strip I’d purchased years ago. Little did I know I would embark on a nearly impossible mission to connect then to a new bridge.
Reading endless forums and countless YouTube videos only to stubble across this video. Initially I thought “another bullshit solution” I proceeded with said task and low and behold IT WORKED!! Why this isn’t common knowledge I will never know, thank you!

Thank you for this! I've wracking my brain all day trying to reset my bulbs. The keys is turning them off and on!

It is criminal that Philips does not publicize a way to reset hue bulbs so that they can be recognized by a new bridge. And if you Google, you will discover a number of "helpful hints" ranging from simple to extremely elaborate (requiring a developer's kit). None of them works; trust me, I've tried. Except for this one. Warren Chandler is popularizing the only way that this necessary task can be accomplished simply and easily. And, when you're done, you've got a $20 programmable dimmer that you can stick on the wall for when Alexa or the Hue app goes haywire (they often do) and you just want to dim your lights. Kudos to Chandler.

Excellent, this helped a lot! I am new to Hue, just installed several lamps, and a few of them just wouldn't be found by searching, even with the serial number. In addition, the serial number can be a real pain to get from a hanging ceiling lamp :-/. This solved the problems.

It doesn´t work for me. Tested with 2 dimmers and 30 bulbs E27, E14. Only 6 bulbs from 30 made hard reset. Other 24 with no effect.

The only problem with this video is *you held your finger on the remote's LED during the demonstration* so we don't know when it will flash or what color. Oops.

So Philips does not include a bulb reset capability in their app. They make you buy a dimmer switch. Great marketing plan by Philips's to increase sales.
