Exiled Prince: Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich

Показать описание
Dmitri Pavlovich (1891-1942) was one of the few Romanov Grand Dukes to survive the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. His son and grandchildren will be able to see the restored Alexander Palace, a true rarity among the Palace's 21st century residents. Ironically, Grand Duke Dmitri survived because of his involvement in the plot to murder degenerate "healer" Rasputin. Sent in disgrace by Tsar Nicholas II to join an Army unit in Persia, now Iran, after the 1916 murder, #GrandDukeDmitri later escaped to England, and from there to the United States. He is the only Romanov whose line held elected political office, in #PalmBeach . He was also the potential inspiration for the scrappy character Dmitri in the 1997 film #Anastasia.

Stunning video essay! A man associated with notorious Rasputin, & controversial Chanel. Always wait for a chapter in your Romanov series, the best. Thank you! ☆☆☆☆♡...

Fascinating and thank you so much! I knew little about Dmitri, though I've been interested in the Romanov history for a long time.

I am very happy to stumble onto your channel. As a Russian I am interested in the history and glad to hear your POV. Look forward to more. Thank you. On a different topic Bolsheviks after a few years adapted a lot of ideas and way of life of Romonov's - tsarist time which was and is the Russian culture.

Excellent reporting on Grand Duke Dimitri…a wasted, sad life.

Of course Grand Duke Dmitri loved his country and wept for her suffering. His diaries are full of text about Russia and it’s shameful to suggest otherwise. Read them. But he was also clear-headed in his assessment of his country. He understood that Russia alone was to blame for her own problems, and that that had to be reckoned with before she could move forward to a happier future.

He got engaged to Olga but it didn't work out because of his dislike for Rasputin. He was very dear to the Czar. If he had married Olga, they would have been a beautiful couple.

Informative video!
At 17:07... is that Olga on the left, or is it Maria?
At 17:57...is that Olga on the right, or is it Maria or Anastasia?
Thank you for this. I learned a lot about this fascinating family.

Sounds like this poor Grand Duke was a rather sad fellow most of his life after the passing of Nicholas II and his family.

Interesting that so many closely resembled their cousins in so many countries..

Great video, but some of the references to Zionism are ahistorical.

The photo on board the Standart that is colored and shows Grand Duchess Olga, the man stated to be Dimitri is actually one of the Officers of the Standart.

The memoir that his sister wrote was called “The education of a Princess” not the “Last Grand Duchess “

The Czar could not legally transfer power to any of his daughtors because the son of Cathrine the Great passed the law that no royal woman could ever become the ruler of Russia. That was čaušesku by the fact that his mother overthrough his father with the help of her lover and tok the throne of Russia.

It the Romanov's had listened to Rasputin and avoided involvement in WW I they might be on the Russian throne today. I also heard they dug a .445 bullet out of Rasputin, used widely only by the English which raises other possibilities..

The narrator has the most tedious voice, and her study of pronounceation is chronic.
