So, to be fair, this isn’t a debate it’s two people who agree with each other talking to each other. I think a lot of what you said is false. You have to go through a background check to buy a gun from a licensed dealer, for example, and the school shooters often passed a background check anyway.

Although highly emotional, mass shootings and "assault rifles" represent a tiny fraction of overall Homicide in America. In 2013, after the horrors of Sandyhook, President Obama commissioned the CDC and the National Academies of Science to create a report called "Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence." In that very thorough & comprehensive report it states "Mass shootings are a highly visible and moving tragedy, but represent only a small fraction of total firearm-related violence." Additionally, Handguns [not "assault weapons"] are used in more than 87 percent of violent crimes (BJS, 2010). Surveys of felons found a preference for larger-caliber handguns that are easily concealable (Sheley and Wright, 1995; Wright and Rossi, 1986).
