There have been a lot of times I've been taken aback by music, but not too many where it paralyzed me. When I first got Superunknown sometime in 1994, I skipped over a lot of it; lots of Spoonman on repeat for a while. But I remember one specific day where I was listening to it on a Discman in the kitchen and this song came on. It felt almost oppressively slow, and it just felt so heavy and DARK.

I remember it being a sunny summer day, but when the final climactic chorus comes in and Chris Cornell is screaming "I KNOW I'M HEADED FOR THE BOTTOM BUT I'M RIDING YOU ALL THE WAY," it was the first time I can remember feeling what I'd come to consider an adult depth of emotion, and I stopped in my tracks. I started taking stock of my life and felt deep despair and hopelessness; I felt real rage for the first time. I've loved the band ever since, and consider myself lucky to have found an album that is such an incredible tool to unlock parts of myself, to calm, to provoke, to deal with myself, and anything else that might be needed, even to this day.

Wow. You did Kim proud on this one. Amazing job on a song that sounds easy, but has so many intricacies.
