What do you guys think of Greatsword in Sunbreak?
I'll share my builds with you guys soon

Sunbreak gave Long Sword a True Charged Slash, and Great Sword an Iai Spirit Slash

A Thing to note about the Guard Tackle. You are actually guarded for almost the entire start animation. The guard tackle will also completly negate the knockback of any attack hitting your guard(as long as you can guard against it).
Last but not least, if your guarded tackle is hit by a monster attack, you'll also immediatly skip to TCS/Rageslash.

The move will slow you down by a bit, but it can fullfill almost the same role as the strongarm stance.

I personally love using Guard Tackle. Successfully blocking an attack with it combos you into TCS/Rage Slash, and it procs offensive Guard -- making it kind of like a weaker strongarm stance.

My main issue is that I can never hit the monster in multiplayer sessions. Then I tried out surge slash combo but it still felt clunky. That's when I realized I could've just played swaxe if I wanted a flashier and more mobile GS that does good damage (or status, exhaust swaxe is so fun).

The 35% damage increase on a TCS is absolutely crazy

GS is incredible for solo play or when you play with a friend. But the moment you have 3-4 players, especially random players the monsters will just run all over the place. I usually go with GS or Hammer in Solo and Hammer or DB in multiplayer.

I remember the original MH and playing GS, feeling ultra powerful. Over the years, GS was nerfed and other weapons quickly eclipsed it in power. Now, Sunbreak brings GS back to it’s original power.

SSC seems like Elemental/Status - it actually makes sense to have 100+ element in your weapons now vs the RAW Vanilla ~25 Element.

Me with 250 hours using GS since base rise: “Hmm yes interesting”

i gave strongarm stance a try, but i still prefer the rage slash playstyle, i think armored moves are more fitting than counters on a weapon like the greatsword.

I become a greatsword main in Sunbreak since it gain mobility with the wirebug and skills. I love the slash combo and rage slash whit their Poise. I also use the guard tackle, hunting edge and power sheath wich let me cover more distance and/or dodge.

Elemental surge slash is top tier in multiplayer, which I strongly believe its true main purpose. Solo hunts go with traditional tcs strongarm but in multiplayer specially afflicted hunts go with elemental surge slash because its guarateed you gonna miss most of your strongarm tcs. Blue scroll = surge slash combo then red scroll = tcs just for sleep nuking monsters head if you had the chance ofc, alot of adhd players out there wont give a shit and just wakeup monsters with tickle hits.

My favorite elemental surge slash gs is the silver rath because its easier to build with and you can squeeze alot of damage in that shit
ab 7
resentment 5
agit 5
fire attack 5
crit b 3
wex 3
dereliction 3
blood rite 2
recovery up 2
defiance 2 ( really good at level 3) level 2 not so much and you can use flinch free instead
chain crit 1
part breaker 1

crit ele 1
element exploit 1

final boss head, arms and boots
silver rath chest
malzeno coil

You can actually fill in the four slot head piece of crisis +4 instead of recovery up 2 then remove 1 level of challenger and slot in level 1 crisis for 20 more damage
I do have a good charm but you can remove challenger as necessary because per level and uptime it is the worst even compared to resuscitate which is a 3 level skill compared to 5 of challenger so it is the least priority. Armor augments aint really a problem because getting resentment is not that rare even wex and crit boost because rerolling all depends on your patience (post update i have no idea how rerolling works now). Any monsters that are weak to fire you can literally melt lmao

Man Hinoa and Minoto sure had a makeover 😆 Also I didn't know that the counter charge slash gets aplified by Offensive Guard.

Surge Slash Combo has a lower DPS than just charging up TCSs, but it's a lot easier to use. You don't need to time any counters or position yourself so the monster will be in striking range 5 seconds from now. It's a much simpler weapon like S&S, where you run up to the monster, dodge its attacks, and hit vulnerable parts during the openings.

I really like the GS and appreciate it, but I miss my attacks so often. My depth perception is terrible in this game. Hunts with the GS take me around 15 minutes, but with nearly anything else, Im barely hitting 10. Granted this is a me problem and Im just getting used to GS in low rank, but I dunno, Id rather use something else I actually hit with

Sunbreak killed my experience with the greatsword by butchering the Critical Draw skill. A playstyle that has been around for a long time and they decide to change a skill that is essential for it to work...and for what?

I like the greatsword but i don't use it much in Sunbreak due to this. Its a real shame because i like the hit and run style the greatsword can offer.
