The worst part is that these games often exclude jumping in order to make environment design easier. They don't have to worry about the player going places they "aren't supposed to" and can easily funnel you into the direction they want, even if they fill the world with objects you could easily jump/climb over if you were physically in the world.

The embarrassment and frustration of not being able to jump was hilarious spot on. I loved the snake and the fact that it was clearly just a sock puppet. There is a certain charm to your production style. A wholesome kind of cheese. It was fun seeing the old man show zero empathy for your character "dying" and just pure glee at getting his venom ointment for free. This was a well written and executed story.

I was half expecting him to use a combat skill that "leaps" at the target, but only works in combat against a viable target. But then we wouldn't have that seamless ad transition.

Alternatively, when a game doesn't let you jump outside of combat but in combat you can basically fly around.

IE FF7 Remake and Rebirth where the skies are yours in combat but outside of combat a small barrier hinders you.

Whenever I want, I can do it now even. Ankle high obtrusions can be stepped over or jumped over because I dont have a rigid limited walk cycle with hitboxes and collisions to balance. Its almost like I can compensate for this stuff in real life just by stepping higher or wider, but have only one button to do it in a video game. And if you don't have that option, like you do in real life, you get kinda mad about tiny paths that don't work because its a single pixel too high.

If its a game about exploration, or a game that demands navagating terrain of any sort, you HAVE to be able to jump or at least climb obstacles.

If I’m controlling a character and can’t spam the jump button constantly I don’t want to play the game. I don’t walk or run a anywhere, i only jump. Idk why but I’ve been this way since I was a kid in the 90’s.

dude this freaked me the fuck out as a kid when i first played zelda. i was PANICING looking for a button that made me jump. simply not being able to jump while i was just walking around felt SO ARRESTING
