It started out with Kate schellenbach on drums, and they were doing punk and hardcore. That turned into some experimentation with hip hop. The response couldn’t be denied so they dropped Kate and started doing hip hop. They had some help from Dr Dre ( the one from yo mtv raps w ed lover). As the DJ for License To Ill- their major label debut. Kate went on to start luscious Jackson- a band worth checking out

The also chose Beastoe Boys because the wanted their band name to have the same initials as the favorite punk band Bad Brains.

Not to mention the Stranglers lyric ..."The weekends here ...the beastie boys are gonna make alot of noise ". Being into punk they all heard that lyric .

My favorite “in the Year 2000” from Conan is “the Beatsie Boys will go through Beatsie Puberty and become Beatsie Men.”

I remember buying License To Ill when it came out.
The fact my dad hated it made me love it even more.

Internal. I know 💯 that it was "Internal Excellence" at the time. I had to make a pamphlet for a class which I made it of course about my Boys and I learned the acronym at that point, in the 90s.
And listen to this...this is why the internet is crazy. When I was younger, hell it might even work for today, I used to say I would marry the man who could tell me what it stood for. Sooo many guys have told me their fans. I honestly couldn't tell you how many people I've asked this question to. Not one person ever knew the answer.
But here we are. ❤ It's not the reason for the name but it's an amazing piece of trivia every fan should know..."Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Internal Excellence".
Also fun fact I had to special order a first of theirs called "Some old bullshit" which is pure punk, from a record store in my city.
On my 18th birthday I had a party in my first apartment and it was amazing, not going to lie. HOWEVER, someone had burned a couch cushion of a loveseat my parents had made when they got married in the 70s. This thing was, actually is still red crush velvet. So many people offered to buy that thing from me. Anyway, someone burned a hole and just flipped the cushion. Ok fine you suck but accidents happen glad you were having fun whatever.
BUT then I found the cassette tape of "Some old bullshit" broken and thrown behind my stereo. The ribbon was literally broken. It was like a punch in the gut. I waited weeks for that shit. I think I still kept the broken one somewhere. 😂
Still have my very first poster of them hanging. It's hung in every house I've ever lived. The only time I almost took it down was after Yauch passed away but instead it became a reason to never take it down. And now I've even lost a son myself and we just have to remember the people that helped shape us.
Plus, nostalgia hits us man. Like Eminem Houdini, yeah it hit him too. For GenX right now, especially with the world the way it is, we just want to go back! I'll even keep my earned years it's fine but let's pull it back PUHLEASE.
Just really good to see them!! And what an honor, for the street named after them. ❤
I understand the weirdness they feel, but Boys you changed music and you deserve to be remembered for that. Forever.
