Shun Premier vs. Shun Classic — What's the Difference?

The Shun Premier is an extremely high-end line-- it uses hard steel, it is clad in 34 layers of stainless steel, it has a hammered finish, it has a full tang, and it comes with lifetime sharpening.

The Shun Classic is Shun’s standard knife line. It has the best performance they offer without all the extra frills of their higher end lines. It features a true full tang, 34-layer Damascus-clad blade, and black pakkawood handle. Like all Shun knives, it also comes with free lifetime sharpening.

In this video, I compare the Shun Sora to the Shun Classic and give my opinions.

This helped me a bit on deciding. Splurged a little bit and got an 8" Premier Kiritsuke. It'll be a long time before I need another knife again.

Thank you for this video. Finally convinced the old lady to let me buy a set of Shun and been debating between the 2.

When it comes to the handle. I love the classic, is the shape the same with the premier?

the classic has a left-handed version, which switches the D shape bulge on the handle.

What do you mean when you say "the premier has a little more umph"?

Free sharpening isn't free. You have to pay for shipping to Shun and include $15 for them to ship back to you. So probably $30 to $40.

The premier is also 100% for both left and right hand user witch the classic is not due too a spécific handgrip and way of the sharp was done. 👍

I think it's inaccurate to say they're "full tang" because the blade and the metal handles are not originally the same piece of metal. They're welded together.
