What are the cons of majoring in anthropology? As an anthropology major at UCLA myself, I will explain to you some of the negative sides of this major. Questions such as how much money will I make and what job do I want come to my mind on the daily. So, I assume others have the same questions that I do. I hope you get something valuable out of this video and let me know if you want a pros of an anthropology major video!

Who am I? My name is Alivia Brown and I am currently an undergraduate Anthropology student at UCLA on a mission to find a career that I love. My major does not have a straight forward "path" as many would say and I am not only determined to prove that I can be successful in my major but also demonstrate my ability to find a career that brings me joy. This is my journey to expanding my global and anthropological knowledge. This is my journey to finding the best career I can. This is my journey to finding happiness. This is my journey to success.

TLDW:
1- it's a broad major
2- so it's hard to specialize in the beginning (applies to all scientific majors)
3- so you can never be truly an expert on the whole field (applies to most scientific majors)
4- it requires graduate level education (again it applies to all scientific majors)
5- very few people know it or understand it (which I would actually consider a plus)
6- so it has very small classes (which again I would actually consider a plus)

I'm totally obsessed with Anthropology. No matter bad the cons are, I'm gonna study it and your videos are very informative and helpful.

I love your videos, they're very informative. I just decided to change my major to anthropology today. Weird because it was so random- I saw a door opened in my university, and I walked in to ask about a club related to archaeology. It was then I met my spouse to be, a major in anthropology. It's so cool, especially the concepts in the biological subfield like human evolution and the descent from our common primate ancestor. The mystique of so many things still debated ferociously among scientists, like why our tree-dwelling ancestors ultimately adopted a terrestrial lifestyle. Anthropology is cool because so many aspects of it aren't complete in what we know about them. It's ever-changing as more discoveries are made. Definitely worth the cons

Hey! Loved the video! I believe we should be "aware" of the cons of something as much as the pros and so this is wonderful. ❤️
And I also got to know that anthropology is not only misunderstood by the people I'm surrounded by but also almost everywhere 😑

Grad student in Linguistics here. What you're describing are issues with academia in general and particularly the humanities. One thing I'm recognizing as I approach the end is that there are a lot of careers out there that take advantage of the skills you're developing in your field. Also, I totally get the extended timeline of going from undergrad into grad school. Taking some time off is a pretty normal thing, so if you don't feel ready to jump into a master's program right away, consider if you want to do something else for a couple of years until you're ready to come back. Whatever you decide, it sounds like you're in a really good place to make those decisions!

I just started watching your videos and they are so relatable. I sometimes feel uncomfortable with peoples reactions after I tell them that I am an anthropology major. I will start grad school in the fall, focusing on sociocultural anthropology. I will definitely be watching your future videos because they are so informative!

Yo, I just graduated last year in the summer and for anthropology job seekers, I would recommend the archeology pathway as bearing the most fruit jobwise as that is where I got my job. Good luck to all those anthropology job seekers out there.

Vastly interested in future jobs of an Anthropology graduate at different level(Undergrad, Master's, PhD). And how much do they paid

I have the same issues (I'm currently not being compensated at $19.03/hr, which is how I should be compensated - I'm being compensated at $16/hr). I didn't major in anthropology but my senior thesis advisor had a PhD in anthropology from the University of Michigan. Did you feel cultural anthropology was worth it?

Alivia imo anthropology isn’t a good major because there isn’t a lot of jobs in the field of study. A lot of people who major in anthropology end up unemployed or underemployed in jobs like BK flipping burgers. This makes it not worth spending thousands of dollars on an anthropology degree. I love social science but wouldn’t major in a social science subject because they aren’t marketable. I would recommend someone who’s interested in anthropology to major in something similar to it like Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, or Public Relations. Love your videos and have a nice day! 😎

you forgot about the rampid racism and colonizer way of thinking that runs deep in the field of study...
