History of Industrial Design Week 7 Part 2: But I'd Rather Talk About Manufacturing

These videos were made in 2020 as a desperate COVID-era attempt to help keep students engaged in learning as in-person teaching stopped. With no support, no resources, a ridiculous "production schedule," and no idea they would become a sort of permanent record of the time, I just threw them at YouTube. The students mostly didn't watch them, but lots of others did, and that continues to amaze me. I decided to leave them up for anyone who is just curious about design.

NOTE: If you are a current student at Rhode Island School of Design and your professor has sent you here to watch these videos, you should really worry about how much tuition you are paying just to have a teacher sending you to YouTube instead of teaching you themselves. Just saying...

The fact that you have to make these videos due to coronavirus is the best part of this crisis.

I can only say that if I continue to live beyond 80, my pleasure will be repeat viewings of your talks. They are so rich in illustration and information. Many thanks.

Thanks Professor.
After hurricane Hugo a German architect was hired on Sullivan Island S.C to design a monolithic house to be able to withstand a hurricanes blunt force. The house was named "The eye of the Storm". I was the Stucco contractor for the project. Her design has withstood all comers. So in love with the way you share knowledge of design. danke schoen 2022

You might not see this, but seriously - as a history teacher brushing up on his stuff this has been invaluable. It will change my design work as well. I understand why you might have stopped... but there are so many people that cannot be in your location or attend the place you teach at. You helped so many people by making these lessons available during the lockdown - you can keep helping people, and it would be amazing.

I would love to hear your thoughts on Ulm School for Design and how inspired the American thought of design.
