Great video! What you talk about aligns with why I'm stoked to show up for my church almost every week. I play lead guitar, and co-lead with my dad when I visit the church I grew up in serving. I've been on teams since I was 15...poorly banging out tunes at bible camp. I'm now 40. Flexibility and honor of volunteer's time is crucial to them sticking around. I also sacrifice and shift work things around when I can to play. Honor and build relationships. Encourage and acknowledge progress and growth when you see and hear it. I am loyal and show up for the people I care about and want to spend time with. I also feel lost and have trouble connecting at church if I'm not playing frequently. Desire to learn and passion for music and worship will take beginner or mediocre talent and build them to excellent cornerstones of the team.

#1 most important thing is turning people down who want to join the team but just aren't good. 😅

Here is encouragement to people, early in their musician journey, to step up with boldness to serve: Almost all the worship songs are basic and easy at their core arrangement. Keep it simple: Lock in with the rhythm section. Enhance dynamics. Create space for the featured parts to shine. Simplicity and sensitivity to feel the moments when The Holy Spirit moves is key to flow. It's expert "vibe" and "feel" applied. Time serving cultivates the necessary experience to adapt to the other musicians and flow in The Spirit.
