The BEST Way to Summarize Anything With GPT-4o

Today I'm teaching you the best way I've found to summarize anything using AI.

Summarization is one of the top use cases for ChatGPT and other LLMs, but 99% of people are simply prompting "Summarize this:" and leaving it at that.

If you're still doing that, watch this video. It will change the way you use AI for the better.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prompt 1:

Article: "[ARTICLE]"

You will generate increasingly concise, entity-dense summaries of the above article.

Repeat the following 2 steps 5 times.
Step 1. Identify 1-3 informative entities (";" delimited) from the article that are missing from the previously generated summary.
Step 2. Write a new, denser summary of identical length which covers every entity and detail from the previous summary plus the missing entities.

A missing entity is:
- Relevant to the main story,
- Specific yet concise (5 words or fewer),
- Novel (not in the previous summary),
- Faithful (present in the article),
- Anywhere (can be located anywhere in the article).

Guidelines:
- The first summary should be long (4-5 sentences, ~80 words) yet highly non-specific, containing little information beyond the entities marked as missing. Use overly verbose language and fillers (e.g., "this article discusses") to reach ~80 words.
- Make every word count: rewrite the previous summary to improve flow and make space for additional entities.
- Make space with fusion, compression, and removal of uninformative phrases like "the article discusses".
- The summaries should become highly dense and concise yet self-contained, i.e., easily understood without the article.
- Missing entities can appear anywhere in the new summary.
- Never drop entities from the previous summary. If space cannot be made, add fewer new entities.

Remember, use the exact same number of words for each summary.

Prompt 2:

[Tone] - In the style of a 11 year old.
[Goal] - With a focus on the 16th century
[Length] - In 100 words/in 5 bullet points
[Quotes] - Include exact quotes from the original text if relevant

Good stuff. Thankfully I already do some of these. Phew. I also use categorise and bullet list, and add give some examples of use specific to your role.

Jo Bro, another AI video the world needs to see .... Nice work, I'll continue watching all your uploads, only for "fast grasping" people like me, that is your advantage, because I also have no time to loose, thanks for running through all your videos in a rush, excellent...! Greetings from Portugal

btw, you don't need to do a long selection copy, you can go over to the left side of a wiki page and click 'Download as PDF". 1 click and you have it. Upload that PDF to GPT4o

I need the opposite. A not so concise or short summary, but that includes all of the subtitles within the article.

SUMMARY:
The video focuses on using summarization techniques within large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT or Claude.

Instead of simply prompting “Summarize this, ” there are techniques to create more effective summaries within LLMs.

Basic Prompt Improvement:

Add a role and target audience: Example: “You are a secretary for a history YouTuber… summarize the text given to you in five bullet points.”

Refine with specifics:

Tone: (e.g., “in the style of an 11-year-old” for simplified language)
Goal: (e.g., focusing on a specific time period like “only information from the 16th century”)
Length: (e.g., word count - the AI may not be exact but will be in the ballpark, or number of bullet points)
Use of direct quotes: Useful for summarizing interviews.

Advanced Technique: GPT-4 Summarization with Chain of Density Prompting
This method, outlined in a 2023 research paper, produces highly concise summaries through iterative compression and refinement.

How to use it:
Copy the entire Chain of Density Prompt structure from the video description and paste it into the LLM.
Paste the text you want to summarize within the designated area of the prompt.
The LLM will generate multiple versions of the summary – the fourth or fifth version is usually the most refined.

Note: This technique might require more time and experimentation compared to basic prompts.

Summarizing Content from Various Sources:
Pasted text: Directly copy and paste the text into the LLM.
Links using the browsing function: Share a link, and the LLM will access and summarize the content (note: browsing summaries may be more concise and this function might not be available to all users).
Uploaded files: PDFs, Word documents (.doc, .docx)
Images of text: The LLM can process and summarize text within images. For best results, use clear, high-quality images.
Files from Google Drive or OneDrive: Directly connect and summarize content from cloud storage.

Prompt Organization: Save useful prompts in a prompt organizer or turn them into a GPT for easy access. The video mentions a free prompt organizer provided with a newsletter signup.
All these summarization techniques are available for free within LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude.

I love your videos so much! I tell everyone about them. One question: you do your tutorials on a Mac/pc - why is that instead of the chatgpt app on your iPhone? Is it for ease of recording or some other reason?

Urgently needed in this category of video is how to do prompt engineering to teach a structured syllabus based on a PDF or set of docs.

Such a prompt, like any teacher, would ask questions and not move onto the next part of the syllabus until the student has proved that they have learnt.

Such a prompt would be aware of the structure of the syllabus and its dependencies. In other words if a student was 10 percent of the way through the course and asked a question that was tackled 70 percent into the course and was dependent on 2 concepts that are only introduced 50 percent of the way through the course the AI needs to understand that and respond appropriately like an actual teacher would.

How do you do all of this with a prompt?

As of writing this it’s currently June 15th, 2024. Can someone explain. I have been hearing in a lot of youtube videos that Chat GPT 4 will be free. These videos were released about a month ago and in those videos they said it would take about A MONTH for it to be free. So far, nothing free shows on mine. When will it be free? Free on mobile or just computer?

I'd like to see the LLM's prompt me for input when it sees [Article] rather than me having to replace it.

Guys, do you experience this issue, that YouTube video summarization doesn't work? I asked GPT to analyze a specific YT video and it analyzed some other random video. I wonder, what is the problem here? What's more, few days ago we tried it as well several times and it finally analyzed what we wanted after several attempts.
