I still need to review it properly. Track pad is horrible but seems to be good otherwise.

Debian is great for machines that you want to setup and not worry about for a couple of years

Debian was always the OS where you could answer "True, but it works" to every criticism.
If they manage to go this new route and stay as legendary stable as they used to be, then Debian will be becoming a ton more popular in the future.

Here is how I would describe Debian:
- Stable
- Easy to acquire
- Stable
- Easy to install
- Stable
- Great for homelab server *or* desktop use
- Stable

When it comes to GNOME-extensions, make sure to install as much as possible from the Debian repositories. That way you'll have no problem when you upgrade to a newer Debian version because the extensions will be upgraded and tested for the GNOME version of that time as well.

Regarding Ryzen 7000 series, Debian stable releases are getting up-to-date kernels through their official backports repo. For example, Debian 11 came out with 5.10, but now it has 6.1 in oldstable-backports. Debian 12 will soon get newer kernels, too, and so will work on newer hardware just fine.

Hearing the correct pronunciation of Ubuntu, Debian, and Gnome is giving me a low-grade heart attack 😵‍💫

I had a server that I had forgotten about and it was still on Debian 9 (stretch) and I went through the upgrade process to get it from 9>10>11>12 and it all worked, I was really impressed.

I usually run Ubuntu, but when I replaced my home pc with another refurbished el cheapo from Amazon, I installed Debian 12 and was pleasantly surprised. The newer gnome graphics, and the ability of using the latest flatpak packages seem to make the difference. I now have decided to use distros which are community based & ran - although I wish the best for IBM, and Canonical with all their Linux adventures. The Debian 12 GNU/Linux experience is enjoyable, there is nothing wrong with something that simply just works. Thank God there are alternatives to what Microsoft and Apple offer.

I've installed it yesterday as a replacement of MX linux and I can tell you that Debian 12 is a gem. The best Debian ever and I'm saying so from my experience as linux user. I'm using linux OSs from 2006.
Super fast installation from the live image with Calamares installer, no compatibility issues, minimal software in order to allow you to choose what you want to install in your pc, and on top of that the software that came with the live image was in its latest version. So it needed very few updates. As a replacement of my previous OS that it was Debian based the installer kept all my settings, backed up the dot files and set the new ones so I didn't have to reset everything. It reused the same home folder.

I switched to Debian 12 from Windows 10 at the start of this year. I now only use Windows for the occasional bit of homework that requires it. Something that really impressed me was that, on windows, my computer was consistently using about 1 gigabyte of page file, but on Debian, it uses none. This is with 16 gigs of ram.

"I use Debian BTW" on my Nvida based gamming rig and I'm happy with it. I started with Mint/Ubuntu years ago, but I didn't like how quickly packages got depericated (I also didn't like being encurraged to do things the conical way). I tried Manjaro and I love that old/new packages lived side by side especially in the aur, but for some reason about every 6 months I had to clean install because something would break randomly after updating and it wouldn't boot. So one day when it happen again I got frustrated and tried Debian 11, I've been happy with it since. It's the perfect balance in my opinion. Although their branch naming system is confusing, until recently I thought bookworm just meant test and sid was unstable, I didn't realize testing is actually the next release stable is always the name of the current release (now bookworm).

I try Linux for almost 25 years and always come back to Windows. But now, after these past 4 months, I can proudly say that I found distros that make me stay. And I have a main one, so good : Vanilla Os, that I prefer slightly over Nobara. Vanilla OS going to full Debian (if I’m not mistaking) and I’m even more happy :-)

I use Linux Mint, and I've always described that as "all the pros of Ubuntu but with none of the crap".

Long-time Debian user here, since 2.1, Potato. Over the years, I have come to use Testing for my desktop at home and stable for my servers. Right now, my laptop is on Debian 12 stable, but I might upgrade it into Testing at some point in the future if it appears to be problematic or dated. Of course, I don't use my laptop for heavy use, so as long as it has a decent SSH client, modern browser, and vim, I can do about 99% of what I use my laptop to do.

It released just at the right time. Gnome 43 is very mature, 44 didnt add much. Kde is on 5.27 which is the last version before plasma 6 which wont come out for some time anyways so its perfect.

I came back to Linux after 5 years of being away. I jumped straight to window managers and couldn’t care less about the distro (although i am really liking the AUR in arch).

Did you try debian testing/unstable on that GTR? Debian allows you to use just as new software as other bleeding edge distros if you like, you just need to be in the right repo.

I don't know about you, but I use Debian trixie/testing and it's not as "unstable" as you think. It still just works as good as the "stable" releases of Debian, it has like at most 2 bugs that you can easily work around.

I love the idea of Debian. You get tons of programs for free, that are extremely well tested and should work fine for a very long time. Stability is the number one thing for lots of people. It is especially important for those of us that just want a cheap PC for a tiny business, it means we do not need to worry about any updates breaking things. The thing works, and keeps working.
