The first-ever electric bus model that is designed and made in Singapore is set to hit the roads at the end of the year. With three doors, the 12-metre-long vehicle can take up to 89 passengers and almost all of it is recyclable. It comes with advanced safety systems and shatter-proof passenger seats. Local bus manufacturer SC Auto is tying up with Volvo to make nearly 600 of these buses each year in its Senoko plant to meet local and overseas orders.

Hopefully can deploy to Bedok’s crowded feeder services like 222 and 225G, the Scania K230UBs and Citaros currently in use are getting old and due for replacement
Having 3 doors would be really great for faster passenger alighting and boarding especially for 222 at Bedok Stn Exit B bus stop

This is very exciting because because I have always wondered why there is no Singapore made this, why there is no Singapore made that.
This example proves that as long as there is support and push from 'upstairs' and partnership with a foreign specialist, Singapore can make anything.

Are the batteries shatter-proof or fire-proof in an accident? What are the maintenance costs for the batteries? How long do u take to charge? Do u need to increase bus fleet and make consumers pay more? These are the fundamentals that have been side-stepped in report.
