Tbh I think the Joker is a poisonous and abusive influence and I'm pleased Harley is moving away from him!

TBH its been mentioned several times that Harley Quinn In the animated universe/Video Games/Comics That she had her immune system dramatically changed thanks to poison ivy as well her natural speed, agility, abnormal strength, and reflexes pushed to the limits of a mortal man. In her Harley comic she demonstrated that she could breathe under water and heal very fast. However its unknown if they scrapped the water and healing factor out since it wasn't brought back again. In the New 52 she pretty much has the same potential as before for the most part. In one issue in the suicide squad she even stated the mallet she wields is 100lbs. For a girl that size to freely just wave around that much weight with just one hand easily just shows you she ain't a dainty flower.

I always assumed that Harley has exceptional upper-body strength, with the way she chose a frickin' mallet as a weapon of choice.

in regards to Harley's upper body strength, of course she'd have to be ridiculously strong to wield her huge mallet (though i haven't seen it in the trailers for the movie yet) ^_^

Harley and Ivy being in a relationship was teased during the Animated Series as a means of goofing with the censors more than anything. It was solidified in Bruce Timm and Paul Dini's somewhat bawdy "Harley and Ivy" miniseries that lasted 3 issues. It was adopted into the main DCU during Gotham City Sirens, I think.

Personally I don't care for it because I like the idea of Poison Ivy having a bizarre thing for plants. It plays into the irony of her character that she can have any man, or sometimes woman, that she wants but she only wants plants.

Harley's been carrying around a comically large hammer for like a decade, so i'm willing to accept that she has insane upper body strength.

Concerning Harley and Poison Ivy's relationship: Poison Ivy is much more like a plant herself than a human. To her, the concept of a monogamous relationship is meaningless. Plants accept any pollen they can get and scatter their pollen to the winds. Locking oneself down to a single partner is a human concept, I doubt Poison Ivy would want to.

As for Harley, both she and the Joker are the human embodiment of Freudian "Id" - they do what they want, without care or concern for others. It makes perfect sense that she'd do exactly what she feels like, regardless of society's opinion.

Of course Harley is super strong, have you seen her weapon of choice? That big hammer can't be easy to lift. Plus didn't Ivy give Harley some sort of injection that made her slightly stronger and faster than the average human/ also make her impervious to all toxins?
