During the 1970s, Nestlé aggressively targeted developing countries in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Saleswomen dressed as nurses would visit mothers and convince them that the formula was superior to breast milk.
Many women, unable to afford the expensive formula, diluted it with unsanitary water, leading to infant deaths and nutritional deficiencies.
Nestlé’s deceptive marketing practices and failure to educate people about proper preparation caused immense harm in the developing world.
