I don't think enough people remember that in the original XY games, you got two starters. They could do that here where your first starter is either Tepig Totidile or Chikorita and then someone gifts you one of the gen six starters.

This video actually reignited my love of pokemon. On February 5th 2024, I left for bootcamp to join the military. A year before that, in February 2023, I got a switch lite for my birthday and with it Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Violet. I then also got Pokemon LA from a couple of friends and I bought myself BD a couple months after. The only 1 missing was Let's Go Pikachu to complete my collection. While in bootcamp, I asked my sister to ship me my switch because I planned to transfer everything to a Switch OLED that I was planning to buy as a graduation present to myself. She didn't ship it to me and instead she deleted all of my progress off of my switch. I had completed all the pokedexes and had 10 shinies including a shiny phermosa I got from a raid in sword and the shiny munchlax from the mini game in violet. I genuinely cried and haven't picked up my switch in almost a year. Now, here I am, a couple days after pokemon day and I've decided that I'm gonna replay all 4 games and refill my pokedex. It took me a year and alot of hours grinding and sleepless nights but I'm gonna try this again. Wish me luck

This is why I always try to make the distinction of “for kids” and “appropriate for kids”. Ex: Paw Patrol is for kids, Pixar movies are appropriate for kids. This is the difference between a kids show/movie and a family show/movie.

I feel like in PL:A you’re LIVING the legends told. In Z-A you’re rediscovering legends told.

I think the reason why they chose Chikorita, Tepig and Totodile specifically is because their final evolutions are some of the least popular and they want to give them something new so people might like them.
If we look at the old “Pokemon of the Year” poll and ignore the Kalos starters and the Starters that got regional forms in PLA, the three least popular final evolutions are Meganium, Emboar and Feraligatr
For Legends Arceus, they wanted to use the most popular starters because the concept of Legends games was still new and they wanted people to get into them and now they want to give underappreciated final evos love in the form of Regional Forms / Megas
