The MOST CRITICAL SKILL To Improve At Guild Wars 2!

Guild Wars 2 could certainly be described as a game which is easy to learn, and hard to master. It's not all that difficult to splatter enemies in the open world, and yet trying to figure out how to step it up and reach the upper echelon of what your profession can achieve can be a very tricky puzzle indeed. There are a lot of different ways to improve, but if I were to give one general piece of advice, it would be this...

In the movement subject: An error that I made a lot, is dodging out of an aoe when I have plenty of time for just running out of it. Learning to dodge only when necessary (and not always panic-dodging for no reason) was a major skill improvement that became even more usefull when I started pvp.

As someone who regularly dies to Reaper shroud 2 in any raid/strike content that involves no walls, this video felt like a call-out.

8:00 omg yes! when I started recording my gameplay years ago, this was shocking. I mean, I can clearly see my progress, but it still happens. I'll regularly give the advise to record your gameplay (amongst others of course) to people asking me, how to get better at something, because that was the most helpful thing for me and still is.

Coming from wow and being used to having abilities cooldown near the center of the screen through addons usage, I've been playing for a few weeks and it's been hard to adjust to the ui in combat. I used to look down all the time to check skills cooldown / buffs uptime and would get hit by a lot of mechanics. After a month or so of sticking to the same class tho, now the CD timings come almost natural and i barely have to look at the action bar. So if you're struggling with this, just stick with it, keep playing and it's gonna get a lot better the more comfortable you become with your class.

Can you please talk about targeting, because moving away from the games targeting assist and being able to target the enemies I want to target is probably the hardest skill for me to learn and I think it’s essential for progressing from an average player to a good player.

my most difficult problem has been (and is) placing ground targeting skills while moving (Engineer Grenades is a good example). It's probably due to poor keybinds using my mouse to move while also trying to drop ground targeting skill.

big facts on boneskinner q.q I would love to be able to be able to know how many blades I have as a virtuoso without having to look down

What really helped me is using a mouse with multiple programmable buttons. Left hand for movement and dodge right hand for skills

12:20 As an absolute noob who has mastered other MMORPGs in the past, I deeply related to this. For the most part leveling, my elementalist simply stayed in fire form, but when I found myself soloing a group event I just rotated all 16 spells. Did I realize that F2-3/4/5 (with a staff) were heals/buffs? Of course not. It still worked well enough - and what's more, it made me look up what those spells actually did so I can adjust my rotation according to my needs. Still a bit scared of post-80 content, but oh well.

How do you manage your keybindings? My biggest problem when playing different specs were the keybindings and the incredible lack of customization the game offers. Like for some specs you use the F3 to F5 skills all the time but on others you don't even have a skill on them. So unless you use some third party addon (which usually breaks after an update) or change the keybindings all the time you need to go with some compromise.

The only 2 skills I truly excel at:
- Press 1.
- Type /gg really fast.

What I never liked about this game is it tricks people into thinking it's mostly a casual experience when in fact it's quite the opposite since most of your time will be spent doing endgame content and the jump in skill required to play that is huge. the game does a terrible job at grooming players for that jump as well. Also gameplay can be kind of janky in some regards. Movement and positioning is so dire that using attacks for movement instead of attacks, targeting far off mosquitos to teleport away and animation canceling can be mandatory for success sometimes. Targeting in general is really really bad. I think if I could pick one problem that is bigger than all the others (at least for me) it would be the nature of the targeting system.

This is great stuff. It seems so simple, right? How can you expect to properly deal with mechanics if you always have your eyes on your skill bar? But if you never thought about it, chances are you're making that mistake all the time and it makes the game a lot harder than it should be.

Looking at skills is going away as soon as the rotation is flawless and cooldowns are in the head. Low intensity builds never make me look at the skills while in a fight as long as i get the utilities im supposed to.
Fun fact im always holding right click down, always

GW2s lack of UI customizability is the biggest reason none of my friends will continue playing it and one of the biggest reasons it took me 10 years to really start digging into it. And even after clearing several raid tiers it's still a massive pain point and stops me from turning the game on a lot of the time.

Still occasionally looking down at my skill bar - guilty. However only just started playing, still learning firebrand skills and there's SO many of them 😅

GW2 would benefit from letting people have action camera movement with the normal camera.
