Great video! We have been in Penang for the past 6 months and are living comfortably on about US$1400 (this includes everything: health insurance, rent for 3 bedroom apartment, eating at a mid-range restaurant once or twice a week, some donations, etc.). The MM2H program has been suspended temporarily, and we are waiting to hear when it will start up again and what the new requirements will be. You make really good points in the Pro and Con section of the video.

Brilliant vid Ronin . I am thinking very seriously about moving to Malaysia. I’m a 59 year old British male and think the location is perfect for me, I like the history of the whole straits of Malacca area being British, I need to investigate the visa system . I have some money to keep me going for living expenses for ten years or so, renting a small apartment etc .

I will never forget driving a Parodua Kancil that belonged to my Chinese Malaysian girlfriend from Ipoh to Kuala Lumper then to Penang. I am a tall person, and the Kancil was never made for my size. It was so underpowered that when going up a hill you had to turn off the air con or it would stall. Unbelievably we made the trip.

I have to correct you on the food side of PG. Tandoori Chicken and Nan Bread are not staple of Penang dishes. Char Koay Teow (fried flat rice noodle), Hokkien Mee (Prawn broth noodle), Nasi Kandar (Indian Muslim curry rice), Asam Laksa, Oh Chean (fried Oyster Omelet), Curry Mee (Curry Noodle) and Nyonya dishes. Since you recognised that PG is food haven, those are our staples.

Good balanced view of Penang. Litter was even a problem at Juara beach on Tioman Island. Will look out for Nasi Kandar next time I'm there.
