Manitoba reported only one new case of COVID-19 on Friday, as the province’s coronavirus curve continues to flatten.

The new case raises the total number of cases in the province to 284. A day before it had dropped to 283 after a presumptive case came back negative.

There have been 247 recoveries and 30 active cases remain. The death toll remains at seven.

During a daily briefing alongside Lanette Siragusa of Manitoba Shared Health, the province’s chief medical officer Dr. Brent Roussin also urged Manitobans to stay away from large gatherings on Mother’s Day, and instead find other ways to celebrate on Sunday.

“We’re not done with this virus. We’re not back to normal,” he said.

Siragusa also provided an update on an outbreak at Health Sciences Centre that began on March 30, stating that it has now officially been declared over as two incubation periods have passed.

Asked when hospital visitation would be re-instated, Siragusa said people should “stay tuned” and that visits would be restricted when they are allowed again.
