In this Volvo 240 video I change a worn out universal joint on the propshaft...
It was so worn in the bearing that it was not able to move and therefore the differential had to take of the movement though the bushings which made the car vibrate quite a bit..

5:20 actually you can easily use the vice as a press. Same set up like on the press just sideways

You were very lucky! My first time with a prop shaft UJ last year on a Land Rover Defender turned into a nightmare. I did not have a press, but I had a vice and G clamps - this still resulted in angle-grinding, filing and lots of swearing! I’m usually pretty good at working out how to get around a problem, but a stubborn prop shaft UJ will test anyone’s patience I’m sure!

In 1984 I had a Volvo 240. It made squeaky noises and a colleague said "I know that sound. The UJ's need to be replaced". I did it in my front yard lying on my back under the car. I don't remember the details except that it was not difficult and I had no problems after.

Very well explained and a good video, thanks 🙂 I do not have a problem with my 240 now, but I might take the shaft out and put some grease on it.
