Wood Shingles On A Log Cabin Roof

The way my dad taught me, split wood used for roofing is called "shakes" and sawn wood is called "shingles". So he would have called that a "shake roof" rather than a "shingle roof".

I don't know if that's a distinction that arose in the 20th Century when the sawing technology allowed for sawn shingles, or it's a geographic difference. Curious though.

Jon, those are shakes, not shingles... shakes are split, shingles are sawn.

really nice work. I do have a question tho. r they going to treat the wood with tree sap or something, or just let it be. I would def b worried that the rain/snow would rot it fairly easily without any kind of sealant. not being derogatory, just curious.

I want to build something like this for myself, for when life gets too much, i can pack up and live in the woods, theres a limestone spring on our 55 acres, and theres alot of deer, wildlife is abundant, and its mostly quiet, and the best part is my family knows where i am, the only people who would actually want to come visit me, just the way i like it
