Just so you know, as a RN of 20 + years, We don’t pull back and check any more, because research has shown that the likelihood of injecting into a vein is very low. This has been the standard of care for years. Secondly, the Ventral gluteal site is preferred over the dorsogluteal injection site because of the risks associated with this site, which you mentioned. Thank you . Nurses are trained professionals who know how to give an injection properly. Never ever let anyone who isn’t a trained professional give you an injection. We certainly know not to use our mouths to touch medical packaging or instruments for that matter. Nor would we ever touch a sterile needle either. In fact if a needle ever touches anything other than it intended purpose, like a hospital gown. We, as nurses, are required to discard that syringe and start all over with a new syringe, medication, etc. Thirdly, as a Nurse we are required to take continuing education in order to keep our profession current in regards to patient safety. Therefore, this is a bad video, which I don’t recommend. It should be titled what not to do.

DOCTOR: the skin does NOT get sterilized with an alcohol or iodine swab, it gets DISINFECTED .
You should know the big difference between these two words and educate the public using correct terminology.

This is an important tutorial for learning to give a sub-gluteal muscle injection. I hope I never have to give one, but it’s good to know! 👍🥰💗

If you pull back and blood enters the syringe. Can you find another spot and still use the medication WITH the blood?
