A democracy for some is not a democracy. Point blank period.

No. They can claim to be an Apartheid Ethnostate though.

It never was. That was the greatest scam, convincing people that it was.

The fact that they were able to claim that for so long without pushback is insane

Calling It a democracy is like calling apartheid south Africa a democracy.
Even Desmond Tutu said that the occupied Palestine is EVEN WORSE than apartheid SA.
Not to mention that the regime was a strong ally, admirer and supporter of apartheid SA back then.

I love that Mehdis profile has grown larger than ever after being silenced by the mainstream.

In twenty years (if the world is still here) he will be lauded for his integrity and humanity in the face of such rampant greedy evil.

The question should be “how could they EVER claim to be a democracy?”

Apartheid is definitionally undemocratic.

Great points. Israel has always been called a beacon of democracy in the Middle East, but that beacon has always glowed a perpetual red. In my opinion it has never been close to being a democracy and has never trended anywhere near close to being one. And somebody tell me why it always has to defend itself. Why is that?

It's about as democratic as the Roman Empire was...

Calling Israel democratic is in the same ballpark as calling the South democratic during segregation. Hopefully Mehdi Hasan can continue progressing on this and realize just like he did with "the g-word" that it serves no purpose to give the benefit to Israel on this. Good on Vigeland for bringing this up.

The only discernible difference that I can find between the various political parties in Israel is that they disagree whether or not to teach women how to read.

When it comes to the Palestinians, they’re all on the same page.

Israël is not the only democratie in the middle east, its the only APARTHEID STATE IN THE MIDDLE EAST.

I mean just look how they treated their own citizens... Let alone the Palestinians

Israel is a democracy, like Athens was, if you don't count the slaves.

Yes, Israel can still claim to be a democracy...for humorous purposes.

No. They probably never have been, as the rules seem to have always been different for the indigenous Palestinians since 1948.

The words "Israel" and "democracy" shouldn't even be allowed in the same paragraph.
