I once woke up to my bedroom full of our most common european wasps (Vespula Vulgaris). They had chewed their way through to my bedroom just above my window lintel and they were everywhere, including under my duvet. I got stung 14 times just trying to get out of bed and out of that room. The stings felt like lots of little electric shocks.

I was collecting arrowheads with my family as a small child, and found this beautiful ant I wanted to show my mom. Apparently I passed out and my hand swelled up so badly I couldn't close it. To be fair the velvet ant is beautiful.

Not to diminish Schmidt, he’s a really funny guy when you read his descriptions of the scale, but I always thought that 1-4 was quite a small range when you consider how many stinging insects there are in the world, and how many there are yet to be discovered, as well as the wide range of pain tolerance in humans. It shout at LEAST go to 11. At least.

A few days ago i hiked through hundreds of tarantula hawks nesting individually in a sandy path near manizales, Colombia.

They were bad fliers too and would constantly take off and bumble into our legs, one even flew full force into my face.
